what is the highest resolution that a scart cable can handle? the standard 720*xxx or even more?

i'm asking because i have a lcd tv that handles up to 1378*xxx and i was wondering if there was a way to use such resolutions beside using the screen as a pc monitor from a pc video card. I was wondering if i can or not play HD games without using the HDMI connection....

    thanx for you attention, Karsten

As far as i know you need a component or vga for 720p. You dont need HDMI if your tv has DVI with HDCP enabled by the way.

i'm positive i can have 720i with scart, but i was wondering about higher resolutions actually. the tv doesn not have hdmi nor dvi, it has 2 rgb scrts and a pc monitor in as it can be used as a pc monitor too (a 32" wide :p )

SCART allows for only 576i (standard PAL resolution.)
Component allows for up to 1080i
HDMI/DVI allow for up to 1080p, unless dual link.
Edit, sorry, first part was a lie. SCART also allows 480i (see 60hz modes in games)

Would I be right in saying that a RGB SCART doesn't allow a progressive signal whereas component cable does?

essentially yes. Although i m not sure if RGB SCART is able to somehow carry a -p signal instead of an -i , or this was never used by the source. I see no reason that RGB SCART wouldnt be able physically to carry a -p signal if needed.

A wire can carry whatever signal you like but TVs with SCART inputs will always expect 15.75 KHz csynced video
