Adam Koralik is a youtuber who is a huge fan of the dreamcast as shown in his keep dreaming video, he also does the usual unboxings, but what's so special about this guy is that he introduced me into cleaning consoles and teached me about getting the best video quality out of consoles and i may have gone above his ranks of cleaning when i took apart a fat playstation 3 and from other youtubers i have i have learned allot more but enough personal info, he does generation retrospectives and do a video per console, he's also a huge fan of the saturn and trying to get a full collection and does do videos of recent games and hardware he has got, he's also part of a channel called game society pimps. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFTfkdN3L4aLdryeADiSsIg
Yeah he's a very cool down to earth type of guy who knows his stuff, been watching his trip videos and console gen vids for awhile so i also highly recommend this channel as well.
Yeah, I've been following him for a while. I may or may not drool over his Dreamcast collection. Also he's active on the Dreamcast Talk forum too. Also, wild guess, you saw the video he posted about the Jaguar CD and FDS power and posted it on here?
no, i went on this website on saturday for the first since i was wondering how to make my saturn region-free because someone sells a bios chip which i have yet to buy and ended up joining the day after, wait i just realized you live in the same city as him
I normally enjoy whatever he uploads, but I was not a fan of his 5th gen recap series. I liked his videos on the 6th and 7th gens, but you could tell that he just didn't know much about the CD32, 3DO, and Jag. There was a little too much conjecture and rambling because he probably didn't have much planned out to say. Does he really think the CD32 could have competed on any level with the PS1? He never brought up the CDTV. Does he really think the Jag "sacrificed it's life" for 3D gaming to become a thing? Sega, Nintendo, and PS1 devs never would have figured 3D out if the Jag didn't exist? I like Adam, but come on man you're smarter than that.
Frankly the fifth gen was won by the company that made the least mistakes. Commodore lost a court case so they couldn't sell the CD32 in the States, which obliterated any chance the thing had of being successful. The 3DO was still $699 for a very long time (because Panasonic/Goldstar/Sanyo/etc wouldn't make any money off software they didn't create themselves, so they sold them at a profit). The Jaguar still used carts and was nowhere near as powerful as the PS1 and Saturn (despite being "64 bit"). The Saturn was doomed because SOA and SOJ couldn't communicate and had a power struggle going on. And the N64 used expensive to produce (and licence from Nintendo) and small (the largest game, RE2 was 64 MB, less than a tenth the size of a CD) cartridges, which pissed off developers. Sony won because they made the least mistakes out of everyone in the generation.
I subscribed to him a few years ago, havent watched all his videos but quite a fair few - one of the only youtubers who talk about gaming how it really is. Good channel. He's also a huge Shenmue fan which means regardless of his channel I consider him an allie haha
I'm subscribed to his channel and like most of his videos. He generally knows a lot about games (especially Shenmue), but often surprisingly little about console hardware. He's also a member on here - seen his posts from time to time.
@SonicSean Conker's Bad Fur Day was also 64 MB. I completely forgot about RE2's size. Then again CBFD was released at the end of the N64's life after they had how much time. I usually steer clear from YouTubers, but due to the overwhelmingly positive response I may have to check this guy out.
I forgot about CBFD, but still, even at 64 MB that's less than 10% of a CD, and far far more expensive (which is why I think both CFBD and RE2 were more than $50 when they were released, I want to say $70 in the States, which probably means like 10 thousand dollars in Australia and Brazil).
Sony did a lot more than "not making mistakes". Aside from good SDK and machine they made a lot to distribute games and curating small devs (especially in Europe). We even got Net Yaroze.
We have a YouTube discussion thread... http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...nny-pictures-Funny-videos-and-general-YouTube
Really? I need to look that up. I never purchased either of those when they were originally released, so I have no idea. But you're right, disc-based media at the time was the best possible option.
I can't find anything right now with prices from launch, but I do know that there were a lot more budget PS1 games than for the N64 (not even Greatest Hits ones either) I didn't mean to slight Sony, they did everything right, I just don't think the fifth gen would have been as much of a whitewash if Sega or Nintendo hadn't screwed up. Getting all devs on board definitely helped, especially when the Saturn or N64 release schedule would go weeks between games, while damn near every week had at least something for the PS1.
I dunno. He knows nothing about electronics and software/hardware so most overviews are not very useful. And fanboy bias.
