This may sound obsessive-compulsive, but dammit, I need to know if I'm the only one who notices... I always knew that the PS1 games with the black bottomed discs were super sensitive (when using a CD case/book, the games would get marked from inserting/removing), but why it is that almost every new Sony device likes scratching the living fuck out of these discs? I have a 20GB PS3 that I used for the longest time to play my older ps1 and ps2 games, but after a while, I noticed that by simply inserting the games into the unit seems to make very thin marks on it. They're not deep or anything (I would call them cosmetic), but from a collector's point of view, it makes the game far from mint condition. A Sony Rep once told me that a lot of dust gets into the disc tray as you insert the game and this friction makes the marks. For this, I tried to avoid playing PS1 on the PS3 at all (save for PSN downloads) Another example, I finally found an awesome CRT with component for all my old school light gun games (thanks to the ppl on this board for their advice, I got a Sony Trinitron 32 inch) I fired up my Slim PS2 for some Time Crisis!. I used Project Titan (PS1) first. Again, I get beauty marks. These were circular, so I double checked another game to make sure the lens wasn't fucking up. I tried TC: Crisis Zone on it (A DVD based game) After a half-hour, I took the game out. No marks at all! Does anyone else have the same problem/annoyance with their PSone games? Thanks
They don't scratch more than any other disc. It is just because of the colour it is easier to spot, but yeah the more you use it the more wear and tear it is likely to pick up as with anything else. It is called entropy.
Sony added the uber-scratching of PS1 on purpose, you if you want to keep playing the goldie oldie, you'll eventually end up re-buying it on PSN.
They did it originally to say it was some new format to give better reading. Bull shit as always. Also I don't think a normal CD would scratch anywhere near as easy as a PlayStation disc. Those things scratch even if you blow on them
None of my PS1 games are scratched. I could sell 90% of my PS1 games as brand new and most people would believe it. And most of those were used / pre-owned. The remaining 10% are the used ones that were loose or aren't so mint, but even those only have light marks on them. Still, after playing all of them countless times on both the PS1 and PS2 i never had problems with scratches. Never played them on the PS3 though. To be honest i never damaged any game discs in my life, including PC cd-roms. Maybe i'm just too careful, but i never left games on console / drive bay. Also, after i finish playing it, i immediately put it back on it's case.
I kinda of swore off backups after I've have several systems die due to complications of being modded or reading cdrs including: A sega CDx Ps1 Ps2 Turbo duo So it's just easier and less heart breaking(in case of the CDx) to stick to originals
I don't think they scratch anymore than any other disc. I could sell most of my games brand new as well. I just look after my stuff extremely well. It's kinda like buying a console second hand and finding scratches all over it.. It makes me wonder what the previous owner was doing with the console to get it to that condition? Same goes with games. If you really look after your CDs, putting them back in the case after use nothing can happen to them or get damaged as easily. It really boils down to how the user cares for them.
Playing CD-Rs doesn't hurt the life of the system unless the CD-R quality is poor. Also you can't really say playing CD-Rs caused the problem with your system if those are all you ever played since you are negating the fact that just using the system puts wear on it and eventually parts need service or replacing.
And others think that's just the excuse pirates give to hide the fact that they are pirates. But it actually is a legitimate use for modchips. Even more so now that it is very expensive to replace certain games.
all my ps1 games are destroyed main reason for me being about 4-10 when i had them so are all very very scrached but they all seem to work fine, all my disks seem to have some marks guess because im quiet clumsy lol but all still work, need a ps1 to play them on again emulators F***ing suck
1) Buy games 2) Leave in shrinkwrap 3) Put in climate controlled safe 4) ??? 5) Play backups! Of course doing that makes you a filthy, filthy pirate and according to the MPAA/RIAA/Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft using backups is causing the children of developers to develop rickets and scurvy. Why do you want children to have rickets and scurvy ASSEMbler?
I'm sure some people would find sort of erotic satisfaction with that. And that kids, is why piracy is so rampant. PEDOPHILES.
