How easy is to make a Gamecube a portable? Lose the drive mechanism as it takes about half of the cube case, install Wiikey, tuck the hardware inside a case with a decent sized LCD and leave the controller external. I'd like to have a portable Gamecube for on the road gaming but not a hand-held version (hence the separate controller) My biggest issue is making a nice looking custom case. I have no experience with custom plastic work.
I dont think your mod shoujd be terribly difficult as you can already buy some decent 5" lcds that fit perfectly to the gamecube. My suggestion on the case is to simply cut the existing case down by whatever excess is left from removing the drive. You need to consider whether you want to keep all four controller ports though. There are quite a few case modding and portable making tutorials out there as well as forums dedicated to the subject. With some patience and perserverance you can make some cool things. Check out the benheck or bacman forums for a lot of info on the subject. Ive done a few mods myself and can give you some pointers anytime, as well. Heres a youtube link to a couple of my mods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G3vurE2nX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czTAxyWbyg8 Both of those mods used existing cases. Currently I am working ona consolized GBA.
