Yes, 7/11's that provided me with cash at the most ungodly times (and for the most ungodly purposes, at that). I can't say much about the ATM's since I never used any besides the post office(which did close after hours, except for some big ones like the one at Osaka station) and the 7/11's but I always had some access to cash.

 

yup , might have mentioned it in another thread, but at the end of last year i got into an inane argument about how "98% of all crimes in Japan are commited by foreigners.

I had to go to the Japanese policing website and hunt for the figures to show that this assertion was ABSOLUTE FUCKING BULLSHIT.

And even then it was "well, the figures must be wrong"

then they announce the name of the JAPANESE person arrested for the crime :

"Higuchi Kaneko (41) was arrested at his..."

*mutter* see? Korean! Kaneko is a korean decendants name. fucking koreans.

Or if the name is a "traditional" Japanese name no escaping ...

"Higuchi Sasaki (41) was arrested at his home, picture here"

*mutter* see? Korean (or chinese)! Look at him, he's NOT Japanese"

Someone could do the math and probably prove that even if every single foreigner in Japan committed a crime, it wouldn't equal to a fraction of everything reported, thus, mathetmatically proving you were talking to a complete dipshit.

 

that's the thing, the people i've had this talk with (several!) are all USUALLY pretty clued in, but - with them being full on 100% Japanese - they all seem to buy in wholesale to the whole bullshit charade. :/

 

hehe yeah, I noticed a few signs where they have a mysterious mugger drawn in all black....with eyes that obviously don't look Japanese, whereas the female victim is in full color with Japanese eyes...

If you want to really surprise a Japanese person, tell them that the crime rate by US military in Okinawa is actually lower than the crime rate for Japanese in Okinawa. They simply won't believe you...

 

So true. I rear-ended a lady on my scooter (haha -- what'd you think I was talking about?) years ago with no license, on my way home from work. We had no dress code, but luckily it was winter so I was wearing a nice sweater and for some weird reason, slacks. They totally let me go on the presumption I would pay for the damage.
