I found this trail quite interesting, it appears the Japanese are getting extremely serious about archiving games.

    I was sent this link:
    http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/eng/newsletter/winter2006/videogames.shtml

    Which lead me to:
    http://www.gamearchive.jp/

The related conference in Dec. last year had a very heavy hitting team of speakers

This is the first reference I've seen to an Academic focused attempt to archive games in Japan that appears to have been done with the involvement of Nintendo & Sega + other key players.
Does this mean prototype stuff will end up getting formally archived?

    On that page I read:
Weird, if the hardware and software have become unusable, what would the function of the USB interface be?

At any rate, the project is interesting for its trivia. I'd like to see the original game developers provide technical development notes, design choices, etc.
