Howdy Okay don't flame me for talking dvd player rather than games machine  Basically I just wondered if any of you technical boffins would know if its possible to gain access to the software/bios on a DVD player? I want to change the 'splash screen' (start up/manufacturer logo screen) and 'screen saver' (bouncing dvd logo) for my own image. I beleive it is possible as long as certain limitations on file size etc are met. Certain older chinese players and even some higher brand players used to allow this through their menu systems many years ago but it seems like it is no longer an option these days I have a cheap Nikkai a32jc DVD player from maplins with a USB socket on it so thought this maybe a possible route? (the player is cheap and cheerful but plays various formats great stuff for just £25!) anyway if anyone can help me out that would be nice. I have looked at good old google and many dvd specialist sites talk about region hacks but not much info on splash screen changing etc so its probably more of a software tech type thing Cheerios!
If the player can be updated (i.e. flash-based) then it's probably possible but you'd have to be pretty skilled to figure out how, if it isn't supported out the box. If, as I suspect may be likely, the firmware on your el cheapo player is not updateable, then no, not possible. If the splash screen image is hard-coded on ROM then you won't be able to change it (unless you replace the ROM altogether, but I can't really imagine anyone bothering). Either way there's certainly no universal and easy way to do this.
Thats kind of what I thought but i was hoping some tech guru would take me under their wing and have the skills to do it never mind looks like it'll have to stay as it is :crying: Thanks though
Have you googled the model? Sometimes there are hidden menus which can be accessed with a combo on the remote. Usually nothing comprehensive but you might get lucky.
Occasionally. I've found most of those to be diagnostic menus or info menus at best. About the only DVD player I can think of that might be easily moddable would be Apex players from early last decade. They supported all sorts of features that mainstream manufacturers wouldn't even think of touching (xvid support for example).
Yeah I have read about the APEX players and some old SHINCO ones too if I did somehow find one that still works it would probably be too big for the application that have in mind. I have googled my model but all that comes up is region hacks and bloody maplins stuff!
Try ultimate googling (that's how I call it , some call it getting the everything out of google). Example: dvd player model menu -region -maplins +remote Speaks for itself I guess, here are all the things I know explained: -Using quotes "like this" will only show results with the things you search in that order, instead of stupid results like this: I like chips but Pete hates this. - Using -word will take away everything you put with minus like: cool music -hip-hop -R&B - using + makes you get more results like: cool music +hardstyle - Currency converting can be: $ 165 to € or 165 USD to euro or 165 USD to € or $ 165 to euro - You can also use google as a calculator like this: 3 - 4 + 8 * 3 / 6 (you can also use x instead of *) Well that was everything I can come up with now, hope it helps
