http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/acclaim-dies-a-second-death/ Just three months after its recent acquisition by Playdom, Acclaim Games has been shut down a second time. Visitors to Acclaim’s official site yesterday were greeted with the following message: “We regret to inform you that all Acclaim games will no longer be in service effective August 26, 2010. ACCLAIM COINS Any unused Acclaim Coins can be reimbursed by emailing transition@acclaim.com (please include your Acclaim username). Must be from the email address used to register your account so we can verify your identity. *9Dragons players only: We will refund any purchases made within the last 30 days. OTHER GAMES Check out other Playdom games at http://www.facebook.com/Playdom Or sign up to test our new game Kogamu at http://apps.facebook.com/kogamugame Please contact customer support with any questions or concerns at: contact@acclaim.com Thank you for your support!†The same message is present on the official websites for all of Acclaim’s titles, so they will not be outlasting the developer on this occasion. Acclaim was once one of the biggest publishers in North America during the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System. The company filed for bankruptcy in August of 2004, but was later revived in 2006 to publish online free-to-play titles. No reason has been given for Acclaim’s swift demise, as Playdom has yet to release any comment on the proceedings. IndustryGamers has reached out for comment but has yet to hear back. They released mostly shit, that's why. EVERY game on my Saturn with the Acclaim logo on it is crap. Same with every game that has the Japanese company Imagineer'S logo on it. And like Accliam they are no more.
Not true: Although obviously everything else they released was crap. But still, anything made by this "new Acclaim" was even worse, just those web based games made to entertain stupid kids. I always found it hilarious that they used the old logo and name, as if it would give them any name recognition value, especially since the company was generally considered one of the crappiest in gaming.
IIRC they were responsible for the US conversions of Galactic Attack/Layer Section and Darius Gaiden. So I would have to disagree.
Weren't there Japanese versions of both of those titles? Did Acclaim make those versions too? You're talking about the Saturn versions, right?
Actually I think NBA Jam is crap  Also Acclaim did release Layer Section and Darius Gaiden in the west but they had nothing to do with the production of the game. They were just publishes for Taito thats all. They also published a few other Taito games such as Psychic Force. In return Taito had to release some of Acclaims shit in Japan. Besides, I did say "my Saturn" which is Japanese only Yakumo
I can't totally hate on Acclaim because they published: & Honorable mentions: 3D World Runner ( NES ) Alien 3 ( Genesis & SNES ) NBA JAM T.E. W/ Xband ( SNES ) Mortal Kombat II ( SNES )
No way! It's the only sports game worth playing! I had no idea Acclaim published Psychic Force, though.
Extreme G, Shadowman, Turok were fun. They published Burnout and Burnout 2, X-Men on the Saturn. Unfortunately, they ended up being like Ocean - a ton of crap with a few nuggets of gold.
Absolutely! The new one has to be one of my most anticipated games this year...I'll be pissed if it sucks
I'm excited for it, too! But I'm pissed at how they're handling it for the 360 and PS3 owners... :banghead:
There were. Thats why I said "US conversions". While Acclaim certainly didn't make either game, they were nice enough to give US Saturn owners a taste of the 2D shooting greatness the Saturn was getting overseas.
Acclaim doesn't stand for shit anymore. There was a time where some of there games were considered good (NBA JAM!!!) And there fall from grace has just been so huge.
Forsaken Extreme-G (and its successors) Gladiator: Sword Of Vengeance Re-Volt Trickstyle Loved them all. But I agree, some of the other games they made were goddamnawful.
