The oldest I have is SNES, before that they seemed to have just disposed of.

I had a pentium 60 I got from there I gave to some exgirl I knew who had he pc reposessed. Turned out it was used for nintendo stuff and I wiped the hdd for win2k...

    Ah well..

What I need is pc2100 ecc ram for the server, it only has 512mb.
    I need 3x 18.2gb 10k scsi drives for a ml370
    and 2x 36,4gb 15k ultra 3 drives for a ml350
2x Adaptec 2610sa cards or any more 6+ port sata 64-bit pci slot raid cards

So I guess does anyone have spare / cheap server equipment?

Anyone got any experience with running a CVS/SVN repository for open source projects?

I curious how Acclaim handled this (sharing, versioning, forking) over the years...

Am I to understand that their legendary NES material has been lost in the pages of history? This is a sad morning :(

I hope at least that the Wizards and Warriors series, including IronSword has been salvaged by Rareware (Although I doubt it , considering how they only recently -snes days- invested in proper backup equipment)

Well, there is always data recovery, even for things under Windows 2000.

So lost or not, that depends on the exgirlfriends own happenings.

I think you got that wrong. Acclaim got rid of their pre-SNES stuff as it seems, so everything that didn't end in collectors hands is actually lost :(

That PC more likely had SNES files on it I'd assume. Weren't Pentium 60s around at like the early 90s?

What I mean is, I know the hd was wiped, for windows 2000. But was it a complete wipe, or just a format. Since if it only was a format, then you can recover some of the stuff from the old exgirlfriends old pc. That is why, I said if the data is lost or not, is up to the exgirlfriends own happenings. And I didn´t say if the old nes stuff was lost or not.

it's not that easy to recover a wiped-out HDD in general. More specifically however, Win2K would prudently choose NTFS over Fat32, which means that there's nothing from the data left:p

PS: Who'd want to install W2K on a P60? o_O W2K dragged on my Pentium 2 266 with 64MB Ram - it doesn't even meet the minimum requirments to install on a Pentium 1 @60Mhz - in that the installation doesnt allow you to install from what I recall, it gives u a message about it ( I used to work in assembling computers for a shop back in the day in my summers)

Don't believe me? Try installing any version of Win2K on a Pentium 1, see how it goes :p Even if you do get it to install, it wont run properly and definetely not in a useable manner.

    Maybe you meant Win NT?

I'm all for helping out, and I'm willing to put 250GB of my web space towards it.

I guess the first thing that needs to be done is for ASSEMbler to divide the stuff into rough groups. Let's see if we can get the hardware he needs for his server.

Barc0de: One of my old servers was a 166MHz Cyrix with 64MB ram, and it ran Windows 2000 Server just fine. It even survived being hackaday'd.

marshallh, if memory serves, I tried installing Win2K on a P1 @ 133Mhz with a 512Kb VRAM graphics card and 16MB RAM, and it wouldn't install.

Also, the version I had on my P2@266 Mhz wasn't Server edition, it was Win2K "Pro" or something like that. I had stripped it to its minimums on boot (regedit), so no malicious or extra code running anyway. The thing took a good while to boot and when it did, apps loaded preeetty slowly.

here are the minimum requirments for w2k :

    http://www.windows2000.windowsreinstall.com/specs.htm

    and I quote:

    Windows 2000 Professional
Minimum Requirements Computer/Processor : 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU Memory : 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness
Hard Disk : 2GB hard disk with a minimum of 650MB of free space
CPU Support : Windows 2000 Professional supports single and dual CPU systems

    Windows 2000 Server
Minimum Requirements Computer/Processor 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU Memory 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum [128 MB minimum supported; 4 gigabytes (GB) maximum] Hard Disk 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 1.0 GB free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.) CPU Support Windows 2000 Server supports up to four CPUs on one machine

    Therefore I conclude that installing W2K on a P1 60Mhz sounds a bit odd o_O

back to the topic , I really wish the nintendo material of that computer would be alive today :(

Any technical documents or custom tools related to audio I'd be massively interested in. I document that sort of stuff anyway, so I'd obviously up for helping out.

While I don't have any Debug/Dev units, I could help compile information into whatever sorted form you wish to use...

P60s existed in several core flavors but the earliest was 93. If I was to be sent a bit for bit copy of the drive some of the data could be recovered as thats one of my many talents. Or any drive for that matter.

I've sucessfully installed XP on a p233 with 64mb of ram and it ran fairly well. About on par with my p3 650 laptop which is not very comforting.

I'd be more than happy to help out on the project as I've got ungodly amounts of free time and technical expertise, just no dev hardware. I do have PC hardware from all generations along with every iteration of windows so anything that can be done from those vectors I can handle.

Would this mean that actual source code to actual commercial console games (released or otherwise) would be made available for "normal" people to get at and download and play with? I am specifically interested in NES, SNES, N64, Mega Drive/Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Saturn, Jaguar :)

Also, arcade (although I dont know how many arcade games acclaim actually wrote code for or what hardware they ran on)

Sign me up. It looks like you'll need a secure access WIKI for those who are helping, to meet in one central location to share information and update overall progress. Also, I can get a hold of some server parts where I work and warranty them.
