As I'm sure most fans already know, the live action Ace Attorney movie has already been released in Japan with International releases being planned as well. From what I've seen and heard about the movie, I'm not impressed like most fans seem to be. To me, the costumes looks amateurish and downright terrible. I'm not lying when I say I've seen better cosplay of the characters online, yet this supposedly high budget film cannot do better? Of course, that is probably because the series has over the top anime styled characters that have no business being portrayed by real actors in a live action movie. What happens when you take video games with ridiculous, goofy, and unrealistic characters and make it into a live action move? You get the Super Mario Bros Movie and the first Street Fighter Movie, two "classic" movies that are beloved by some for all the wrong reasons, hated by others for obvious reasons, and the rest who try to forget those movies even exist. Ace Attorney would have been a much better anime movie, or possibly even a anime television series.

Based on what I've read online, people who saw the movie without any previous knowledge or attachment to the series find it cheesy, cringe-worthy, and painful to watch (like most video game movies), while most fans (or at least, the most vocal ones) seem to be splooging their pants over it and think it's the one of the best video game movies ever released. One infamous website in particular even titled their review, and I quote, "Ace Attorney Is the Best Video Game Movie Ever (Take That, Hollywood!)" What are you people seeing in this movie? I'm a huge fan of the series, but I just don't see what the appeal is. Anyone here already seen it, looking forward to it, or find themselves in the same position as myself?

EDIT: RUMOR/NOT FACT: I don't see a reason to make another topic out of this since this isn't a fact, so I'll mention it here. For those who gave up on the series after we've been jerked around by Capcom for over a year, you will be pleased to know that there is new evidence (Take That!) to suggest that something Ace Attorney related will be announced at e3. Specifically, it's three vague rumors/statements that make sense when put together. One originated on neogaf, and the other two at the Capcom unity forums. Hear me out before you call bullshit.

    1. On neogaf, a member by the name of ShockingAlberto has hinted that the announcement of a game being localized will be at e3. A clue to this game is a gif of the blue badger (This thing). This person is supposedly a reliable source within the video game industry who also happens to be a big fan of the series. Here is a link to the thread if anyone is interested: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=472816&page=267#post37979039

I know what you're thinking, dude's just full of it. But then...

    2. Fans know too well how much we've been jerked around by Capcom, and fed repeated answers by Svensson, one of the higher ups at Capcom USA. In his defense, Capcom of Japan were the one's who didn't want to bring it over, so he basically had to convince the Japanese branch to bring it over while trying to keep English speaking fans happy. We've been given the "Sorry, not anytime soon" treatment for over a year, which is why it's odd to hear something different from him when addressing the Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney franchises. From the unity forums:

"While we are unlikely to be the driving force behind them (and as such, have a more limited voice in the direction of the franchises) Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney remain important brands to Capcom in the West. You should read into that exactly what you are hoping to (though I have no announced titles to point to at this time)" It ends with a smiley wearing sunglasses, as if to say "Yeah, I'm a boss. I finally convinced the suits to bring it over. You're welcome!"

Read into that exactly what we are hoping to? I don't think Sven would want to place false hope in us, but I suppose he could just be referring to only the Monster Hunter franchise. But also...

    3. Capcom unity member, Simone, has brought to our attention an article from a Spanish magazine which mentions bringing over AAI2 to the west. Here is the original article linked by Simone: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4onuewXzb1r2khmwo1_500.jpg

Translation: “On the other hand, Christian Svensson, from Capcom, has said that finally, AAI2 may arrive to the western world."

Vague, I know, but from all these clues suddenly emerging right before e3, after a year of nothing happening, I honestly think we'll be seeing AAI2, or at the very least, something AA related. I'm well aware that none of these clues provide a definite answer, but I wouldn't bring this up if I didn't think it had a high chance of being true. So basically, believe it, or don't, but I guess we'll see at e3.

EDIT 2: Nope, nothing at E3. Sorry for jumping the gun, but I honestly thought the evidence pointed to an announcement. I don't think it's a matter of if it'll be released, but when and what platform (3DS if they're smart, iOS if they're not). It sucks waiting 2+ years to play a game that will probably be finished within a weekend, but hopefully when it does get released, it'll be worth the wait.

Haven't seen it, but "best video game movie ever" is damning with faint praise if I ever saw it.

It's live action, so it's normal that it would look weird.

All I care about is whether it arranges music from the games or goes a typical movie OST route.
    Does it?

Some games can transition well into live action while others do not. Resident Evil, whether or not the film adaptation was bad, doesn't look weird because the game has characters that don't look odd in a realistic setting. Ace Attorney is something that should never have been considered for live action in the first place. How often do we see spiky haired lawyers shouting OBJECTION!, HOLD IT!, TAKE THAT! in a courtroom with other abnormal lawyers including a dead defense attorney who posses people in the middle of court to help the spiky haired lawyer, a silver haired man who wears a pink (excuse me, "wine red") suit with a cravat, a sexy bitch who carries around a whip and attacks basically everyone in the courtroom including the judge, a white haired coffee addict wearing a visor straight out of Star Trek, and a guy who looks like he came straight out a Castlevania game? Don't get me wrong, I like it all, I just think it would make more sense to make it animated so it doesn't look downright stupid to anyone who doesn't know what the series is, which is why I think it's mostly just the fans who are hyping it up.

The songs can be found on Youtube. I don't know if all of them are on there, but there should be enough to answer your question.

Here's the cross examination theme from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJzAA01qcQo

Has the movie been leaked in anyway online? I heard it did well in Japan but I'm thinking there must be some kind of copy with subs by now because of the huge interest in it. Since this is technically cough pirating cough please just PM a link if one exists :)

I think the director behind it is one of the best working in Japan right now so it definitely had some talent behind it and was not just a cash in.

Hot damn, they actually managed to NOT change all the fucking music for one of the rare times in adaptation of game to movie!

    THIS IS AMAZING!

This just jumped to the top of my must watch movie list.

I actually got to see this at a film festival recently. I really enjoyed it personally. Yes, it's goofy, but so are the games. My only complaints were the "Gourdy" photogropher, and I didn't think Miles Edgeworth looked the part. The rest of the movie was well done I thought, and pretty faithful to the source material with some exceptions (such as the awesomely ridiculous evidence display). If this gets a local release I'll be buying a copy for sure.
