Hi guys, long time lurker, back in the day, winter of 1991 I got a Japanese Super Famicom, basically just a few weeks after it was released. I got it from a UK shop called ACE in London (Advance Console Entertainment) and as far as I can remember it came with the official Japanese Nintendo RGB cable (I'm guessing they modified it from RGB21 to Euro scart format, that kind of wizardry was really unknown back then, long before the open days of the internet) Anyway, on to my point and something which is nagging me recently, ACE offered a service back then called something like "SFC RGB Enhancement Modification" and they used the RF switch on the back of the SFC to turn this enhancement on or off. I had it done to my SFC and it really looked good on my Trinitron, much better than just plugging in a regular RGB scart cable. and you could turn it off or on and see the enhancements effect. Sadly I no longer have that console anymore but I am so curious to know what that mod actually did and what it consisted of. Anyone shed some light on this or know anymore info?
Launch model SFC's use transistors to amplify the video signals. I can imagine they tweaked them to be a little stronger. Many people prefer a picture like that but it'll crush the top end of the color spectrum.
I was sad to find out my console was the 2 chip 1992 model and couldn't have the RGB quality increased at all.
