Clueless on how to fix it now, I've disassembled it, cleaned out the dust and all. But the problem still persists, I can't even install Windows XP. I've managed to install a few Linux distributions before and notice that before it forces a shutdown it says something about the temperature hitting 80°c. Which is Odd since it doesn't actually feel that hot. Anyone have a possible solution?
Maybe it's a bug in your BIOS? Update, if there's something available. Or fiddle around and see if you can turn off the temp sensors from your BIOS menu.
Did you reapply thermal compound and the heat sink? Your fan might be tired, you can get one off ebay for a few bucks.
I have an Acer Aspire 1380. It hasn't started overheating yet, but I clean the vents once in a while. Man.... Acer computers are so much crap. The first and *last* time I will ever be suckered into buying an Acer notebook.
