How difficult is it to create these four PCBs? I'm not aware of a technical reason this won't work. Given all relevant pinouts appear documented.

AFAIK western Master System's lockout against Mark III is cart shape and BIOS, not electrical. And its rear expansion port is theorized to provide enough connections for the SG-1000 keyboard. That BIOS disable mod should make both converters useful.

What about Mark III or card slot games on Game Gear? I haven't heard of GG BIOS containing the western SMS's lockout.

 

I have built a card to GG adapter. Rather, I built a card to SMS cart adapter and used GG adapter. The card and cart can be wired pin for pin on pin 1 to 35 The only issue is finding a card socket, which you'd need to cannibalize out of a SMS console.

I wouldn't try making a pass through card and cart for GG. There is no 3D GG cart, and using SMS 3D games on GG is just ugly at best because GG screen was never intended to work with LCD glasses.

I was able to play card games on SMS model 2 that lacked card slot, and on Genesis/MD with power base converter. Later version of PBC does not have card slot. However F-16 does NOT work regardless of which slot you used or which adapter, the problem is in the video chip on Genesis/MD, it is missing the required video mode for F16. You will only get title screen no game play.

True the options are pretty limited, not many card games. I doubt F16 would play on GG either.

Mark III to SMS has more potential. Potential to allow SG-1000 titles for a modded SMS.

 

It's looking promising. There appear to be suitable edge connectors for JP>US SMS. I'm more likely to convince someone to construct ideas of this sort if I can provide the components.
