Bit of a beginner in this area.

I recently got a Rhea (yay me) and am wanting to go full flashy shit on the Saturn its going in,

So is it possible to add LED lights to the inside of the SS so that when the lid is opened they come on?

Got a beginners guide on this?

One way you could do this is to connect a micro switch, like below, to the part of the drive door inside the console near the hinge which moves when the drive door is opened, so the switch is activated when either contact is made or lost depending on what the drive door does (you can wire the micro switch to either variation with some, or get either type). The switch will be wired to connect from ground>switch>LED. The positive end of the LED to connect to the DC voltage the console is using, with a suitable resistor to step-down the voltage to the LED.

The type of LED you use will determine the voltage it uses, if the ones you use do not state their optimum voltage, then there is a chart for this along with a basic calculator equation to work out the resistor you need here:

Think though about how you want the LED's to look like as you'll be close to them with the drive door when opened and the result might look tacky if not done right. If you remove the drive tray and make your own with clear perspex you could install flat LED's around the perimeter to give a more radiant light, however would be harder to attain and still look tacky. Up to you though.

    Cheers for the responses

My new idea due to lack of a menu for it

Im probably gonna have two constantly on, one for the game changing button (Will keep this simple, a pen shell cut to size with the bulb inside) and one lighting up the extended SD card slot

Where would be wise to solder the wires for the power to them, they wont be mega powerful just some cheap ones from Maplins

I like these ideas so far and I have one you may be interested in if you have a model 2 SS (round button model; model 1s have oval buttons). You can add a CD/SD card access light to where the LED is on a model 1. This would be cool and if your SS has problems in the future, it may help pinpoint one of the problems.

Nar its the model one, dont think anybody sells replacement transparent shells for them as that would be awesome
Just ordered a load of SD cards for this and the other bits
Shame I cant make it so eject is the game change button

Where would I solider to power the bulb?
Im kinda new to this soldering buisness

Depends on the LED. If it can tolerate +5V, just solder it to a spot that has +5V. You could probably solder it to a point one of the other LEDs are on.

Hang on lads, ive got an idea, wonder if the lid has enough give to count as a press on the button? Feels like it, will save me modding that part of the shell

    EDIT!!!

It seems to be pressing, I can hear a little click

Used the outer shell of a pen, cut it to size then moulded it to be flat on both sides, no need for lights now.

Next up (when it gets here) is to mount the SD card extension slot on the top

Also I might stick this on it
    [IMG]
    Or return
    Or escape

    Or the space bar
