I'm looking to try and find Adobe Photoshop version 5 (or possibly 4) for my laptop, and am wondering if this or even version 6 is classified as abandonware? Adobe no longer sells either of them, so they would no longer be making any money off of them. Does anyone know if old versions have been made publicly available, or what Adobe's stance on them is (i.e. do they have a secret page on their website for ordering old versions, do they not care, etc.)
version 5.0 is not abandonware... they are still selling 5.0 ... however its only possible to buy 5.0 when upgrading from the limited edition of 5.0 (which you can get for free at allot of products)
So they are selling 5, but only as a limited upgrade to the full version if you manage to have a crippled version from a scanner/digicam/etc. that you bought like 100-years ago. So much for trying to do this the easy legal way. And companies wonder what drives people to piracy. :angry
For sure a company like adobe won't give away a product it used to sell for several hundred dollars. Your best bet is one of the following: 1. Use the LE version 2. Find a magazine with an old version of an app (Paint Shop Pro 5 has been given away with magazines over here before) 3. Use the Paint Shop Pro trial version - up to version 7 for sure still let you carry on past the 30 day trial, lol. Maybe it still does!
PSP 7 wouldn't let you go past the 30 days (well the one I got didn't anyway), unless you actually changed back the time on your computer while starting the program. Which I used to do A LOT :-D The only program I know that'll still let you go past the trial date is WinRAR.
Time travel Well why not just set your clock up to the year 2099, install, and then just set it back to where it should be? :smt043 ~Krelian
Was that directed at me? I'm not exactly into editing pictures, and I figure it's a waste of good money for software I'm only going to use a few times.
just for the record paint shop pro is hillariously easy to registrate with false information but that leads to piracy so that is a big no no to say.
He said GOOD alternatives. :smt043 Thanks for the suggestion, but having used Gimp extensively before, it's sortof like the Decaf version of Photoshop Lite Preview Edition - okay for nothing serious, but not very good for serious work. Nevertheless, with a dearth of Photoshop 5 online, it might be my only option. :smt009 And I don't think PSP is going to work well for what I'm wanting to do.
Hey no PSP bashing, please. Don't knock it til you try it, it is every bit as good as Photoshop and a darn sight cheaper!
Actually, I do believe it is well within my rights to state that I don't like PSP. And yes, I have tried it, and it isn't remotely as full-featured as Photoshop, again - especially for what I'm trying to do.
