Well, After years of waiting my exchange has finally been upgraded! However, i need a few recomendations, hoping you guys can help out.

Firstly, ISP. Cannot have a download cap, and possibly have the ability to upgrade to a static IP at some stage. Looking at getting a 500K product.

Secondly, a router. Don't really mind too much about features, But i would like a firewall and i want one with a built in hub and a not-too-complex setup.

    Any help appreciated, Cheers

I can't help you with UK ADSL subscriptions but I must say I am very satisified with my LAN/ADSL setup... I use an Alcatel Speedtouch 510i, which is both a router and an ADSL modem, but it has only one port. Hence I connected it to an old hub I had lying around and now everything works flawlessly :)
Configuration is very easy, too, the only issue being that the ST510 does not allow you to open port ranges, just individual ports. But I guess there are scripts for that.

Like antipasta i can't help you find your adsl provider however i'd recommend you get a sitecom router, they are a bit more expensive but so easy to use.

They come equiped with all the setting of all your country's providers, simply select your provider and presto all settings are done no hassle what so ever.

I don't think any cable companys going to want to lay around 2 miles of cable to my house though, which could be a problem!

have a look in Tesco, whilst passing there recently they were offering 512k BB with no cap for £17.99.

Oh yes, and don't you all take the p1$$ about how we haven't got 99999999GB fibre directly linked to every computer in the world etc :smt009
