Howdy folks, I've been considering moving my site over to a wiki interface, as to make it easier to manage (for those who don't know my site the link is in my sig.) The options I have are these three: Mediawiki TikiWiki phpwiki Thing is I know absolutley nothing about anything when it comes to Wiki software. Of the three above, which one would you reccomend I should use? Does it really matter? My main thing is I don't want to go with one that no one supports and have to switch the whole thing over to another in a few years, I'd like this to be a long term solution. If it works out for the gaming site I'd eventually use it for lots of other things too. thanks
Wikis are a failure except for wikipedia. There's no way to fight the automated spam porn, you have to close out all editing except by certain members, which defeats the purpose of a wiki.
Actually that's exactly what I would do. It would be limited to a members only thing, no anonymous editing. Mainly it would just be myself, but others if they were so inclined could join. The real reason I want to move to it is for ease of use of updating look & feel, layouts, etc. across all pages at once instead of using templates (like I have now.)
Google is your friend here ;-) http://www.siteground.com/compare_best_wiki.htm http://www.wikimatrix.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_software MediaWiki was designed for Wikipedia, of course, so it is what everyone's used to. I'd use that. When I played with it, I found it a complete pain in the arse, though. I personally can't stand Wikipedia's user creation / login system. I didn't look at the login system in any great detail, so I don't know if that can be improved in MW or not without recoding. Hmm, was this topic silently edited? What is wrong with except? That is grammatically correct. Are you correcting him using for after except, perhaps? Again, that could be considered fine, as Wikipedia uses MediaWiki. Therefore, Wikipedia isn't the Wiki software, that would be MediaWiki. Wikipedia is the site / product, which uses a Wiki engine. I dunno, maybe I've missed something that got edited??
Hehe, got it ;-) Does anyone use Wiki software who can explain how the hell it's supposed to work?!?! lol. I installed MW but was totally confused. How the hell do you create a page that then links to other pages, a la Wikipedia?
