Apologies if this has been asked before but searching brings up everything but what I'm actually looking for.

I recently got my hands on an RGB modded Japanese N64, I have no idea what kind of RGB Scart I need to use it on a PAL TV, I've tried the Japanese RGB Scart for my Super Famicom no luck, a PAL Gamecube RGB Scart also no good.

Can anyone shed some light on this? :(

I'm assuming your TV doesn't support 60hz - are you able to test on another TV?

Usually the PAL GC RGB scart should work.. Would you be able to show some pictures of the mod?

Japanese one is J-21 Scart and wired differently from PAL Scart.
Get the PAL Scart cable with Lume sync and see if it works

    What revision is the console?
Later N64s don't encode RGB period, the mod determines the cable needed.

I have Japanese N64 with RGB mod on and use the Lume syne Euro PAL Scart cable without any issue.
Only time you need the Japanese J-21 Scart cable is when you are using with the Fframemeister.

+1 PAL RGB cable user here. Mine worked right out of the box. No clue where it gets sync from, never bothered to check since, well, it works. But as been stated it depends on the mod.

Well, I couldn't find a bit to open my Japanese N64 but I did manage to get a EuroSCART with Luma Sync specifically built for NTSC N64's and it works perfect! Colours are so much more vibrant and everything is sharper!

Hopefully that helps anyone else in my situation.

I got it from https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk they do both Luma and CSYNC, I bought both just to be on the safe side, I never tried the CSYNC as the Luma one worked and was the first one i tried.
