I'm considering selling my snes and games on ebay but I am wondering how much the fees would add up including percentages?
They sneak up on you very easily, though you'll really have to look at the actual listing, selling value and other fees to get an idea. Don't forget that Paypal will take a chunk of your profits too (damn double-dipping).
The fees really do add up, most people don't seem to notice or care. I think its because ebay don't take the fees all in one go, you pay the listing and ending fees seperatly to the paypal fee. Typically you'll be loosing 10-15% on fees, it can be more though. Personally I won't even bother listing games that aren't worth much, after the fees its just not worth the time and effort of listing common games.
Anyone else noticed how quiet eBay has been of late? People being turned off being hit with so many fees?
Ebay + paypal is a ripoff. $0.15 listing + commission + paypal commission = substantial hit to the profit margin. I sell stuff like that for far more, far easier on craigslist, the new ebay.
Ebay is probably the best if you are buying stuff, but selling stuff is one of the biggest issues, since the final value fee really fucks you over. I wouldn't mind the listing fee and the paypal fee, but the FVF is a ripoff and really screws you over if someone backs out and you have to wait 8 days to take it off.
I would like to add my voice to the chorus advising against eBay, but for slightly different reasons. When I tried to buy a Dreamcast Broadband adapter from one Vladmir Lubarsky in California, I got the wrong item. The Paypal claim was turned down because the 'quality' of the item wasn't covered by their guarantee. eBay similarly turned down the fraud claim because it was up to me to resolve it first, with a hostile and uncommunicative seller. It took me four months and a threat of legal action before eBay closed my account, while they hoped all the time that I would cool down, change my mind and continue using their site in spite of the poor service. I buy all my import and rare games from traditional stores now, or through a third-party like Amazon that handles payment directly. I won't use eBay for anything, and if you sell on eBay then you're not getting my business that way.
I'm going to have to jump onboard too. Ebay is not a good way to sell something. They take soooo much money from you. And there's still the worry of dead beat bidders. It's better to look elsewhere such as the market place here for selling items. Buying things isn't so horrible though on ebay usually. Well unless you have a dead beat seller...
Well I'm trying to sell it as a set since I want get rid of all of it, but I might sell the games separately.
I hardly ever sell anything on EBAY as such a rip off Listing fee, fee if sells over this much, then goes up if sells over this much, then extra fees for extra pictures, or bold listing etc etc etc So you could list something at 0.01, sell it for that and end up paying 2.00 with all the fees So you can see why so many people charge quite a high postage fee I use gumtree in the UK to sell certain things from time to time as it is free and is all quite local. It is owned by ebay though, but is a free listing site Don`t know if it is any other countries though Fair prices on this should get a sale Come back yahoo.auctions.co.uk !!!!
