Let me share with you the way I did this well know modification.

    Inspired from :
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1Xgow0GqI8
    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/neo/powerled.htm
    http://www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/tutorials.html?menu=neo-tut-list

I hollowed out the "Reset" button to place a 3 mm flat top white LED inside it.
    [IMG][IMG]

I tried to keep a sturdy structure. I did work on this button again, after taking those pictures, to get an homogeneous surface and to remove imperfections.
    [IMG][IMG]

I removed the original red LED and the 1kOhm resistor (1/8 W a priori).
    [IMG][IMG]

I replaced it with a 1/8 W 120 Ohm resistor and soldered wires going to the new LED.
There was nearly 5 V across original resistor/LED pair. 1.94 V across LED and 3.04 V across resistor. With 120 Ohm I should have 3.2 V for my which LED which should draw 15 mA.

I filled the button with hot glue for better light diffusion.
I think light effect may be better with less intensity (10 mA or less).

    Lightened button.

    Overview with dust and case.

Now I have to clear RGB signal by cutting some tracks under the crystal.

Awesome. I dislike the blue LED seen in other mods and had something like this in mind also.

io nice next time you can sand the top of the led before encasing it and it would defuse more.

i did that on my aes

mine has a blue led, overclockable with switch (12mhz if i remember right).
rca jacks, composite, real stereo, svideo. and unibios 3.0 with socket)

also i made some cables for the av jack, composite(dual mono stereo) and rgb cable .

got the bundle for 80 bucks shipped and did all the mods myself.

    Nice work.

If I remember well 12 MHz is the default speed, then I think for yours it's above that.
I guess it's avoid slowdowns like with the MegaDrive.

On mine, I'm gonna change the DIN8 pinout to have stereo output. Mine came with a RCA cable, so I will build a RGB/Stereo cable to fit the new pinout (I just received some DIN8 this morning. I will use one to build a NEC RGB cable too).
