    Just read it at destructoid;

    http://www.destructoid.com/xbox-liv...er-climax-are-being-discontinued-284901.phtml

"It looks like After Burner Climax will no longer be available on the Xbox Live Arcade (360) or PS3 marketplaces on December 24. For those who aren't aware, the game will no longer be for sale, but you can re-download it if you already own it."

It's probably the expire of the license from the aircrafts. If you want to play the game, be sure to buy it before they remove it from the store. I know this is a game that probably wouldn't have enough sales to demand a disc release, but this is the kind of thing that makes me hate a game being only available by digital distribution. Sega should have made a disc release with Daytona USA, After Burner Climax, Sega Rally Online Arcade and some other games before these contracts ended.

I've said it a billion times but I'll say it again. Digital only media is shit! If this was released on hard media then people 10 years from now could still buy and enjoy this game but as it is the game will be lost to all who have not bought it yet.

I agree with the sentiment, but unfortunately, that is the only way most games are going to be able to be released in the future. I know that I would love to offer physical cartridges for my 3DS games, but that just isn't going to happen.

If I had any money left over for this month I'd get it but guess I will never play it now. Another reason I fear an all digital future.

another reason why we sometimes feel forced to hack our consoles. luckily enough games which have been removed from the xboxlive store have been copied and uploaded and are available to run on jtag and rgh consoles. it's a shame that the only way to play these games is by hacking a console. then the developers get no money when we run a copy of the games aquired from certain places on the internet on hacked consoles.
i'm into the idea of game preservation and i also like to collect at least a copy of games and when games become unavailable and there is no used hard copy to purchase from ebay then an hacked console is the only way.

This sucks, especially since there are a lot of 3DS titles that are digital only outside japan, while getting a physical release there. Wasnt there some kind of flash-cart that nintendo released in japan for the GBC where people could get games loaded on in stores (cant remember the name right now)? That would be nice, at least for eshop titles...

Yeah the GB Memory Cassette Nintendo Power carts? I'd would LOVE to see that return with 3DS titles & PSVita titles as well! since they both use cartridges.

This is a sad news. This game is really fun to play and it's a shame it's going to be pulled off the online stores.
I bought it a few years ago and had a great time with it.
The visuals were great and the gameplay was even better.

It can be done, specially on consoles. Teslagrad is getting a physical release, now some others as well:

Sega could easily make compilations with 4 games or more. They recently did it with the Dreamcast Collection on Xbox360.

Don't forget guys, these companies are in it for the money. If there were any indicators that a compilation disc would turn a nice profit, they would have done it by now. Seeing that brilliant games like Yakuza hardly get sold in the west, I can see why typical arcade games like After Burner Climax, OutRun Online Arcade, Daytona USA only got a digital release. So let's be happy that we even got the chance to play these games at home!

I should have been clearer. I know it can be done, and I could actually go through and release physical copies. The problem is the cost. Sega should be able to foot the bill for something like that, especially with a compilation disc as you said, but the vast majority of smaller games/studios are not. I'm going to more carefully consider this for the PS4 game that I want to try to have out late next year, but the cost is going to make it very hard to justify.

No big deal. I bought that game three years ago. Yes of course you still can re-download it again anytime. I done that with Gran Turmiso HD which removed in 2008

I'm glad I already have it. I've been thinking about trying to buy a bunch of XBLA games before they get taken down. Now is probably a good time to do that. I want to get a bigger HDD for my 360 (the one I have now is only 20GB), but I guess I could just use an external HDD, which I already have.

The Xbox 360 supports external media up to 32GB per USB-slot (using a bigger drive with partitions of 32GB each won't work). So for mass storage you'll be bound to either MS's expensive hard drives OR replacing your current HDD within the MS caddy, with some trickery with your own (max 500GB).

It's been preserved along with many other digital-only releases that have been pulled by rampant piracy. Thanks again, rampant piracy.

ALSO: It -was- released as a physical copy on Lindbergh! There is 1 disc on eBay complete with security dongle at the moment.

I thought they did a great job with this game. It's a shame to see it go. Unfortunately, this is indicative of a larger problem, which has already been mentioned, but yes, digital media is not good for preservation. As has also been mentioned, though, a lot of these smaller games would never even exist if it weren't for digital storefronts. All the companies involved with the video game industry need to start figuring out a way to fix this problem before it becomes a bigger disaster than it already is. In ten or twenty years, we could have a whole plethora of great games that just seize to exist, and that's not good. We need to get on top of this now.
