http://www.gamespot.com/news/6155892.html Seriously, does anyone (Even lawyers) take him seriously anymore? It seems like he just makes big threats for sueing for anything that doesn't suit his puritan-like lifestyle. Granted, he is more funny then a nuisance now.
Sadly, he influences too many politians who know nothing about video games or the ESRB ratings system, like Yee in California, with his contradictory views. He refuses to accept that parents are ultimately responsible for what their children play, not the game manufacturers and not the state or federal governments. The AotS panel discussion last week just shows that Thompson is completely ignorant of any views but his own.
I find it hard to believe that Thompson takes himself seriously. The fact that other people take him seriously is just mindblowing.
I don't think Thompson does take himself seriously, when you hear him talk seriously in person all he really says is "violent games should be rated", and personally I agree. That's a totally different message from what he releases to the press or to game sites, which is inflamatory egotism. I'm not sure whether he's a coke addict suffering sporadic crazed delusions of grandeur, or a smart politician making a living off sensationalist press. I'm not really a fan of either.
I dont undestand why they don't understand that people play what they want to play. Its not because a kid could watch a porno that they will all ban them. For Christ's sake.
Thompson fails to mention (or doesn't consider) that if there are rules prohibiting the sale of M-rated games to minors, then the fact that they can preorder them doesn't matter. When and if it ends up being rated M, kids who have preordered it that try to buy it will simply be told they need a parent to buy it or they'll get a refund.
Ok..now he's a game tester, as well? What the heck! "Mom, when I get older I want to be a lawer in order to get videogames before anyone else."
