It seems the Bosses are harder and the enemies take more hits to kill.
That and I'm Japanese Illiterate so the Game just seems harder.

I never played neither of them (at least I'm still eager to play at least the PCE version) but both games are called Akumajo Dracula X. The PCE-Version is Chi no Rondo, the PS one Gekka no Yasoukyoku.

In addition to that you can't compare those two games anyway. Chi no Rondo is a classic linear hack'n slay game while Gekka introduced the slight RPG elements and backtracking that I dislike so much about the current sequels on DS -_-

yeah I meant Nocturne in the moonlight aka Japanese SOTN

but yeah, I'm on a bit of a Castlevania kick right now.

Many japanese and international versions of games actually do have adjusted difficulty. For example Ninja Gaiden III they decided the american audience needed more of a challenge and so they cut out the password option, limited continues, and made enemys deal 2x as much damage in many cases.

So it's possible the game was tweaked at some point but it could also be your perception too.

When I used to play this. I always thought it seemed a bit easier then the US one. So think it might just be you and how you remember it. If I do remember right it did seem easier to level up in the US version. But more then likely I am wrong.

Perception could be key, after all Castlevania is notorious for being radically changed for the US

we should make a difficult comparison thread.

f.e. chômaikaimura was more difficult as its super ghouls'n ghosts counterpart, while the JPN Mega Drive contra was much easier than its oversea counterpart, due to having a lifebar.

Don't forget the baby-version of Viewtiful Joe that only the Japanese got. What the fuck. Those guys deliver superplays like on an assembly line and yet they're the only ones who get an extra easy rerelease, lol.

btw: Nocturne of the Moonlight is the translation of Gekka no Yasoukyoku, it's mentioned nowhere officially :p
Sorry for the nagging, I just can't stand using translated Japanese titles. Mushihimesama? What's that? Aah, you mean BUG PRINCESS! I like MAD BEE LEADER, TOO!!!

Apples & Oranges. The PC-E game is a lot closer to an arcade style game than Gekka no Yasoukyoku. The former can be played for a 1CC quite easily (and is maneagable -- I did it) while the latter is a bit long-winded for such play. 1 Castle maybe, but even that's long.

SOTN and AKDX are completely different games really.

AKDX Is traditional Castlevania with Densetsu's(3) Branching Paths.

    Albeit alot easier to play.

And To be quite honest, AKDX Isn't that Hard at all really.
I've Beaten both the original and the PSP remake and the difficulty is pretty much the same. Although i prefer the Remake for the Soundtrack and all the extras you have to find to get 100% ;D

I haven't played Gekka no(SOTN) In years, I tried playing through it with the Full-Screen patch for the PSP-port with DXC, but seeing as I own a 1000 model psp, the refresh rate on the screen isn't too great compared with the 2000 model and there is a lot of noticeable blurring going on.

    Which gives me headaches.

A shame though I really wanted to play it again and I don't own a copy for the PS anymore , nor SS.

If you really want to pull your hair out(literally). Due to difficulty.
Go play Akumajou X68k or the Chronicles version.

Better yet, Play DX for the Super famicom/nintendo and try to fight the final boss. It's Dracula but you have to fight and dodge all his moves while on pillars. One misstep and down dracula's toilet you go.
