A little quick look at the game's profile at GameFAQs + a quick ebay search seems to indicate that US and JP got canned, and the EU version was the only one to make it out on the PS2 market.
I don't have a ps2 test unit yet but if its out in Europe then there isn't much special to see anyway.
I've got one right under my hand : ps2 pal french. Only released in europe probably because this port have been really lately released (may : PSX; june : DC & PC & Game Boy ; october : PS2).
Hmm is it from Infogrames? Is it a different game than PS1 Alone in the Dark new nightmare? I was told this particular game from Infogrames was canceled by Sony because there was no major differences between it and the PS1 version. Infogrames rebuttle could be summed up to something like well this one has "more polygons". Then the game was denied once again.
Yean, Infogrammes, some month before they rename themselves Atari. I haven't played it yet but I have been told the graphic differences are even not very convincing, since the PSX version was really awesome looking. Apprently, CG and whole game are in higher res and characters and light effects are even more impressive. And it fits one DVD... And it was an easy way to make money with a new game that new PS2 owner would have not at all bought on PS1 since it was "PS1 ? bah this can only suck !!"
I own both PS1 and PS2 versions and they are graphically very similar (as mentioned higher resolution) and a the PS2 version has a lot of video sections. The PS2 version also benefits from some really well produced audio. On the whole it's much more atmospheric, still very playable. I'm looking forward to the 360 release.
