    Hi guys,

I recently downloaded Resident Evil Alphas and Beta's for PS1 and I am a bit confused with a few things and I was hoping somebody could clear them up.

    Let's start with..

    Alpha 1:-

    2 Files

    19,588KB
    1 KB

    - Why are there 2 files?

Is it a sample, demo, trial or the full game?

Why does it say 'Press Start' on boot up when the rest of the games subtitles in Japanese?(no voice acting in this version)

Is this version supposed to be English or Japanese overall?(NTSC-U, PAL or NTSC-J)

    Alpha 2:-

    2 Files

    98,068KB
    1KB

    - Again.. Why are there 2 files?

And again is it a sample, demo, trial or full game?

Says 'press start' on boot up but the rest of the game is japanese subtitles(no voice acting in this version)

Is this version supposed to be English or Japanese overall?(NTSC-U, PAL or NTSC-J)

    Beta 1:-

    2 Files

    718,573KB
    1KB

    - Again why 2 files?

Press any button to start on home screen - Is this japanese or english?

    New/load game

    English+japanese subtitles

    English voice actors

Holding L1 freezes the game but doesn't freeze the sound, pressing L1 again unfreezes the game.

Is this version supposed to be English or Japanese overall?(NTSC-U, PAL or NTSC-J)

Hope that all makes sense! Thank you! :)

    Two files? Where.

Images are usually shared in BIN/CUE. BIN is the image, the whole disc, and CUE is the information about data tracks, audio tracks, length, etc.

If you mean inside the image i guess one is the executable and the other is just a package with game files.

I havent checked any Biohazard betas/alphas.

English graphics and text are pretty common in japanese games, i guess they know english or at least what END, START or GAME OVER mean.

English text in a japanese game is not weird, they can use English words.
Alpha 1 is the V-Jump '95 build and it's a tech demo more than anything else. The game doesn't contain any story elements or menus and only Chris is playable, it was probably made to show what they were doing at the time.
Alpha 2 was made about two months after V-Jump, the two characters are playable, a small part of the story is implemented and some mechanics (like ammo for weapons) have been added. I think it was a demo made for the japanese video game magazines.
The Beta is a debug build of the game, it contains the full game with the debug tools, it was made when the game was in being tested by beta testers. I don't think they showed this build to journalists....
All of these builds were made to run on a NTSC-J system

Do you know how to access the debug tools in the beta?
