I recently purchased an Alpha I which appears to have had it's video card upgraded to the one that was shipped with the Alpha II. The unit came with the October 2000 SDK/Recovery discs. The machine shipped with an erased hard drive so I used the recovery disc to restore it. Upon booting the video was card was not working. I found a Drivers directory but installing the drivers from it did no good. I eventually installed some nvidia drivers I downloaded which seem to work with the card but were incompatible with the samples on the machine. Is it possible I need a later recovery disc because of the hardware swap? If so which recovery set(s) work for a setup like mine? Also does anyone know what the latest SDK version is that I can use on this thing? Is it the March 01 release I keep reading about? Thanks.
Yeah, you need a later recovery, for the later card, aim for summat like > December 2000, in fact Febuary 2001 is ultra stable. ...May 2001 is the last Alpha version.
Ur lucky I have the bios of my alpha 2 video card dumped, If u need pm me? And @Oe really.. that may explain why my recovs wernt working, thanks.
I've got a 4xxx build (Can't remember the exact version off the top of my head), might be june 2002, but I guess that's too late?
