    Hey everyone,
I've got 2 slim ps2's here i would like to mod. They are, SCPH-79001 (V17?) and 90001(V18?). I cant find diagrams with the alternative points and i really personally i dont want to solder to those legs on the "CD/DVD Controller". too much risk involved and trying to avoid it if possible. I need alternative points for "G, H, I, B, A". if you guys know any of the points and would like to share, it would make it a risk free job for me if i could get alternative points for these models
    Thank you guys :dejection:.

I also want to know where you have to solder the Y wire on a 90004 so DVD-Videos get recognized without disabling the chip first.
I read on google that this behaviour(not playing DVD-Video) occurs when the Y point is soldered to the wrong point.
    Thank you.

Y should be one of these 2:

The reason they dont list alternate points is because there isnt any. If you follow the traces, you will see they go directly to the BGA chip next to it.

To make the process of soldering to those legs easier, you should use Kynar wire, one of those magnifying lenses, preferably with a built-in light and some tweezers.

That is the reason I don't mod the late release slims. My equipment isn't quite up to task and I haven't taken the time to practice to see if I can do it with what I've got. I can solder just fine to packages with a slightly wider gap between the pins but to hell with that.

And the late slims have compatibility issues with games making them somewhat pointless to own IMO.

That is exactly the outlook im having at this situation as well...I do own a Hakko FX-888 and all the equipment i need (Gel Flux, 0.021MM Solder Etc) and about 5 more tips for the FX-888. My limit on soldering is to pitchs as big as the ps2's BIOS IC. I've been practicing but i havent found a successful technique yet to soldering to the CD/DVD QFP but still a risk i wouldnt want to take with customers ps2s so i only would modify v1 to v16.

*Edit* If you happen to know the right tip for the hakko FX-888 to solder to the DVD controller, please let me know, i got fine tip conical's but they work like shit... Chisel typetips i find is the best for soldering.

*Edit 2* Always use 30awg fireaza unless its 3.3 and GND then i use some 26 Awg :encouragement:
