So the other day I was doing some Google searches of a few things I had talked about many months back. Here's the interesting part of it all:

Google search: RGB modding a TV set.
    Result:

Google search: Sega Demo System DS-16
    Result:

Google picture search: Sega Demo System DS-16
    Result:

Funny how life works at times...

I may be wrong but I suspect google will change the order of the results depending on data it has about you. Possibly your search history, some cookies or something.

For instance for searching "RGB modding a TV set" I do not get the same exact result as you, for instance your thread is second and not first.

The `Sega Demo System DS-16" picture search result is not 100% identical either.

I have been suspecting google makes you appear more famous since I made a video about burning off plantar warts and whenever I search something about wart burning and removal my video is almost always in the top results.

I thought as much. I guess this can go with the thread one of the mods started called "Something is wrong with Google..." This should fit right in that...

Yeah, I find my site in many Google results but I'm sure that's because I visited it. Same with posts on this forum that I've made in the past.

I get the same results you do, but it is to be expected. Especially when you are searching obscure items that not many people talk about, and with the exact way you typed them for your own thread as well.

    Search
    "Super Metroid Proto"

First link is my thread from 2007.

If you then go to the images the first 4 are mine.

Am I getting more popular? No. Just not many people talk about the Super Metroid Prototype because there is scant information. It also has to do with typing it out that exact way, Super Metroid Beta won't give you the same results because I didn't title my thread that.

    I.E.
    "modifying a television for RGB"

    will not show your thread.

The Sega DS-16 one is likely to show up with any of the following
    "Sega DS-16"
    "Sega Demo System"
    "Demo System DS-16"

Google likes abbreviated things like that, easy to find labels like "DS-16" or "P900"

Not many people talk about that beauty so I am sure that helps boost your post up, especially considering that it is a video, Google seems to throw a couple of videos at the top of searches if it gets any relevant hits.

Not that I know the inner-workings of their search engine or anything, just seems obvious.

Also, your youtube icon comes up because your Sega DS-16 video is on your youtube. Search your Youtube username and it will show thumbnails from videos you favorited/watched as well.

And also another note, ASSEMbler Games Forums probably get a lot more traffic on things like the Sega DS-16 unit than other sites would, I could easily imagine, which would end up boosting its level on Google's prioritizing.

In a few years, all you're going to see is whatever you posted yourself (since it's your own content), everything else will be paywalled. Google is already optimizing toward that. ;)

Seriously though, yes, they know who you are and take that into account (at least on YouTube, and very likely on the web search too). If possible, try getting a fresh IP and browsing in "incognito mode" or whatever, and compare.

Its because the topic is niche (so not many sites with the info)
And assemblergames is pretty high traffic within those niches.

So of course it will be near the top :)

If you search for MX29LV160TMC-90, my sales thread is top. I must be becoming an electronics supplier power house

    :p

Type XBOX, and most likely you'll get images from my blog, youtube channel, and my wiki so, to answer this thread title. No.

Reminds me of how I sometimes clear my cache to get Google to become more "serious" with the results I get. :topsy_turvy:
