Hi all, I finally received my PS3 from America and while it had a few scuff marks on it (from the cardboard inside the ps3 box...I packed it back in like it came from the store) it runs fine...it turns on, the lights function well, etc. But my problem is no image shows up on my TV in Japan (it's a Sony TV) I used an HDMI cable back in the states on my HDTV...but my TV in Japan is SD, so I originally used the A/V cables and no picture or sound is showing. So I bought an S-Video cable and tried that and got the same result. I put an adapter on my plug (since in America the plugs are 3-prong with the grounding pin) and in my apartment all the outlets are 2-pin. So there is power going to it...but I'm not sure what my problem is. Again the PS3 runs great from what I can tell, it still takes discs and all and the controller works...but I am just getting NO image on my screen. I can't read the kanji on the TV menu and buttons so I've been fiddling with the display output for a while trying to figure out which display works....the "game" display in katakana shows a different colored screen but no PS3 image. Do I need to buy a different A/C Power plug for my PS3 to get the right voltage or what? I hope my PS3 wasn't damaged on its way through customs. I made sure it had plenty of padding so no damage would occur. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
sounds like a hardware issue to me. PS3s are universal both in terms of signal output and electrical input.
Hmmm, it worked perfect in the US...but now it's just not displaying any picture or sound...the screen flashes when I turn the system on (like it recognizes the signal) but nothing is showing up....could it have been damaged during shipping? Like I said I made sure it was secure and well padded.
FACT: RCA sourced audio is universal and the multi-out of the Ps3 will output it regardless of region. Hence, your console has issues.
The machine remembers what was plugged in so switching between HDMI and SD cables will give you a nice black display. So to fix follows these steps. Plug the cables in, turn on TV and set to the correct AV channel. With the machine off, press and hold down the power button (errr touch button) until it turns on and keep holding it until it beeps again. The machine should reset the display and work out what is plugged in and you should get a picture, set the settings to the hardware. The PS3 can output display and audio to any compatable piece of hardware so you can output the display via HDMI and the audio via a standard composite cable if you so wish. You make people worry too mcuh sometimes barcode, keep it up.
Thanks a ton Jamtex! I will try it when I get back to my apartment...if it still doesn't work I guess my PS3 is cooked....sigh...I'm crossing my fingers though!
I had this problem many times so I am 99% sure it is whats wrong with it. I carry my PS3 around the world as checked in luggage and so far it's not been broken. In fact I tested it now by pluggin my PS3 into my Sharp Aquos TV with HDMI and Composite video and it displaye the black screen, which was fixed by pressing the power I/O button until it beeped after the first beep it does when it switches on.
Yea I had to do this a couple of times,it works a treat.I let my friend borrow my ps3 before and his tv did the exact samething as yours.Your PS3 is just fine.
Yup! That was the issue! Thanks again Jamtex I've been steadily playing Oblivion again for a bit....but now it's back to work so I have to wait until after I get off to play more. But now thankfully I can purchase Blu-Ray movies and ps3 games in Japan with no worries (aside from translation problems...but it's a good way for me to practice my Japanese) so I'm in good spirits on this issue. Thank you all again for the help!
Wow, talk about a "feel good" thread. If I were in Slade's situation I'd be 99% sure that I was screwed...heh.
I'd probably feel the same way even though i've had a simmilar problem, tried to turn my cable box display to widescreen and accidentally scrolled to far and it to HDMI and i lost my picture lol. Good to know what the problem was and the fix for other people who may have a simmilar problem to try.
sorry to bump a dead thread, but...is it a fact that all PS3s have universal switching power supplies? I own an HK 20GB 240v PS3 and would love to be able to use it in the states without a step-down converter...
