i have memory of seeing during my holiday in Austria, a FF7 version for PSX that was sold at Really low cost, and it was 1 DISC only. i remember asking my mother to translate it and she told me that it was stated in german that the game had no FMV at all... did i dream?
it was in a commercial center and they had the normal version even. case, wrappage and all loked legit... Sony have a CD printing plant in austria, but i doubt they could have made some "special editions" to test the market...
Was there ever a PSX demo of FFVII? Basically, I'd be really surprised if what you're talking about was official.
I have never heard of it and I reckon it must either be a pirate as Deathcoaster suggests or a preview demo disc that they were being naughty and selling! EDIT: Or a favourites collection OST?
I don't know of such a version. Well, if it really existed, it must've been a bootleg. I also do remember loose GameBoy cartridges sold in blister boxes - for 5DM which was about 2,5$ at the time - bootlegs as well but normally sold in a super market. PS: There was a Demo Disc of Final Fantasy VIII that came with the Platinum release of FF VII.
Well, I've found a page about the FF7 sampler disc (which came with Tobal No.1), but it doesn't seem to mention a lack of FMV - though I can imagine it's the case. http://www.ffshrine.org/ff7/ff7_sampler.php It mentions on another page about there being a Japanese re-release, but it added more rather than taking it away.. *shrug*
This "demo disc" just holds two playable movies (one is a trailer made out of random footage + scenes from the intro fmv) the other video is a sepiatone/old movie edited version of the dance scene. There's also a 3rd movie on the disc, can be reached through doing a media scan on the disc through a computer. It is probably there just to act as a dummy. The video shows mostly various stuff from the game, with only bird/enviromental sounds ontop of it. As for the FFVII "version" you mention, Karsten. I think it might've been a dream ;D But it is not impossible that there's been a pirate version of the game that had all FMVs dummied out. 'cause the entire game should be on all 3 discs, with basically just the FMVs available on each disc and some minor exe changes being the difference. It was quite common to see FMV ripped silvers, but those were mostly multi-game-discs, so if this was real, I think that'd be the first time I've heard of a one-game-only-multi-game-disc game ;D
There was a playable FF7 demo disc available. It started at the train station and ended when the reactor blew. -hl718
There are several different FF7 demos. Ontop of my mind, I can remember; The US version came with videos of FFtactics, Bushido Blade and Saga Frontier. Then there's two different Japanese versions, one came with Tobal No.1 and the other is older and was probably handed out at a gameshow or something. (The later features many noticable changes from the final version and also features a copy of the FF6 Siggraph video as a free bonus) These 3 play the same part of the game (opening bombing mission), but they have various changes/differences from the final (your usual bag of impossible party members, and also lovely bag of actual event changes) There are also ofcourse some for the PC versions too, but those are more for collectibles than for someone who wants to spot differences. Though it is worth to mention that atleast one of those demos uses WAV audio for music instead of MIDI audio like the final PC version did.
Yeah, PC version was multi-disc (actually, it was one disc more than the PSX version. An install disc + 3x play discs) There are "ofcourse" stripped versions of this one that does not feature FMVs (and also a pile of hacked versions and wip hacks that includes model replacement, better Win 2k/XP support and the use of other media formats for music, such as PSF rips of the PSX' soundtrack)
