http://www.anvari.org/cols/Ancient_Torture_Tools.html Admire these fine Pain Development Kits of the glorious brutal past
Some of these would make de Sade flinch, truly horrific implements of torture. I did see one however it was like a shackling device (015 i think) that could be a laugh in the bedroom
By "We" you mean the methods, less rusted nails and more humane tools like electricity, water, fuel and so on...
I thought it would have had a Gizmondo, an Amstrad GX-4000 and a Fairchild Channel F in there somewhere.
i think i could explain most of them if needed. i had some interest in those kind of historical artifacts at some point.
Oh yeah, well spotted. That one is quite tame compared to others. Touture? More like instant death with some of them ! Yakumo
Would it surprise any of you if I said that I've actually had to make replicas of some of this stuff? My brother is an Historian and storyteller. He performs in character and gives long talks at conferences, museums and the like. This Spring he asked me to produce some replicas in wood & metal for a museum display. I drew the line at producing a working, fully equiped guillotine, but I did draw up the plans. I decided that from a health & safety point of view a large blade topped off with a lead weight and secured between wooden posts in any public place was too much of a risk!
As hideous as those impliments are, the worst I think I have ever seen was in York. There is a "Grinding mill". Basically like a rather large stone peppermill. A suspected witch was placed between the stones and they were turned by hand until the witch either confessed or died. Frankly, the weight involved and downward pressure was enough to just pulp people into much... only slowly! Imagine being a human peppercorn and that's basically it! OH: The slowest death however would have been the metal cages with the spikes attached...inside! These were generally used on thieves and murderers. They were caged and the spikes would puncture various parts of the body. The cages were raised on chains onto either trees or wooden posts. There the body would slowly swing, each movement a lesson in pain! Eventually they'd lose conciousness and or bleed to death. The corpse was left to rot in the cage as a reminder to anyone entering the town / village that crimes would be punished! The most stupid would be the metal helmets with a tongue plate. The helmet fitted over the head and round the mouth. A piece of metal would rest against your tongue and stop you from speaking. This was used as a means of shutting women folk up. If the husband complained that his wife was nagging him too much, she would literally be stopped from talking! The same impliment was also used on suspected witches, but this time with razor sharp blades attached to the tongue plate. If they tried to speak their tongues would be sliced open. In this state they would then be whipped. Each cry of pain bringing about yet further pain as their tongues were sliced open. Many actually lost their tongues.
