WHY does Gamestop sell used discs that are scratched to all hell.....WHY

I got a copy of killzone tonight.......unplayable.

Happend before with that Zelda collectors disc that came with some Cube too awhile ago.

they were deep surface scratches too.

 

why didnt you check the discs at the store. I always do that and I wont take scratched up ones either lol.

One time they put a sticker on the case and told me I couldnt open the case until I left the store. I made them give me my money back and walked out without ever opening it.

 

I never think to do these things....i was too conserned that I had the instruction booklets for everything But like, they shouldn't take discs in that condition to begin with.

 

Yeah, that sucks man. You're probably better off ordering games off Amazon or something.

 

Sadly, I work at Gamestop (one of two jobs, I only work there because its the "cool" store).

Most of the time workers don't really check the discs. They just check to see if the game is there. THEY'RE SUPPOSED to check the disc, and if its scratched up they should take it in as a refurb (giving the customer less money) to be sent off. But most of the time they don't even bother.

I always try to check the discs when I'm taking in trades though (and I always want to say, "DUDE!!! DON'T TRADE YOUR STUFF IN FOR NOTHING!!!! SELL IT ONLINE OR TO A FRIEND!!!!"). I used to always show people the discs but people kept laughing at the gesture and ignoring it ("Man, I don't care, as long as it plays...") so I kinda got tired of it and quit. But if someone asks for a good disc (or isn't a jackass, unlike 90% of our customers) then I try to make sure I snag a good disc.

 

I found Mega Man X8 at Gamestop and it was alot cheaper than it would've been on AMAZON sometimes I luck out.

Cept X8 is well balls hard

 

You should be able to take it back for a refund, no? Still, it's a pain to get all the way home & find that & have to go back...

I had some similar but different issues with a couple of games I got recently from my local used store:

The first, a copy of Forza looked flawless, but the xbox absolutely refused to read it - so I looked closer & noticed the distinctive swirl patterns indicating that it had previously been 'disc doctor'ed to remove scratches, only this time they'd doctored it to death...

The second, a import copy of Blue Stinger absolutelty refused to be recognised on my recently acquired Japanese Dreamcast - the disc had some minor scratches, but otherwise looked fine. Eventually I took slightly more notice of the top side of the GD - it was a US disc... in a JP case. :banghead: At least I now know what the Japanese for wrong region disc looks like.

 

I HATE disc doctors. I made the mistake of running all my PAL DC games through one. Circle scratches! Luckily they still work fine.

 

The thing about 360...it's VERY picky about what discs it reads mine had trouble with a used Dead rising.

 

Is becos of all these problems with used games that I try to always buy new, but not before trying the game to see if it not a complete piece of shit...

 

I quit shopping at Gamestop. The most recent purchase I made there was the BioShock preorder, and that was the first time in a year I've set foot in the store.

When I bought PSX games or older computer games, I'd always open the jewel case from the other side so the sticker would peel off easier. It also made it possible to return the game if it didn't work/I didn't like it (took advantage of this maybe twice).

 

Yup, I refuse to shop at wangstop now too. I bought Viva Pinata, doesn't work and they wouldn't take it back. They sold me a freezing DOA4 before too, even worse is they gave my gf street fighter the movie game isntead of street fighter alpha 3, even when the case said SF ALPHA 3 in huge letters.

 

I barley shop at Lamestop. I can't even remember the last time I bought something there.

 

well my luck changed a bit one of my best friends bought me a dreamcast.

 

I always check the disk, it is after all, the most important thing. Gamestop is also big on opening new games, using the boxes for display, and still selling them as new. Horrible policy for a horrible store.

indeed it is jon ;-) you've been there for me for the past two years bro through all the crazy crap I have to put up with...anyway, your friend bought you a dreamcast from Lamestop? Their policy stopped carrying dc stuff a few years back.

I also told my friend I would make sweet sweet love to him for getting me a July 1999 Dreamcast........and I'm not even gay.

 

Why July 1999? Cus they boot CD-R? Mines a 2000 something and it does.

Dreamcast rocks man, good score. With my dead 360 getting fixed I bought Super Metroid.
