Have you ever noticed any animal abuse in video games? I know that in some games like Mega Man Legends where you can do more then just kick dogs. In fact, in its Japanese counterpart, Rockman DASH, you can not only kick the dog to save a certain female character early in the game, but you can even kick cats, and shoot down birds too with no penalty whatsoever. (This video is almost full of annotations that save me the trouble of describing everything in complete detail.) There's more too. In many Zelda games you can strike at the Cuccos (The chickens) out of amusement. Though, they'll practically curse you with a flurry of them after your cruel ass. Also, in the MOTHER/EarthBound series, you can strikes stray dogs, crows, etc. with a baseball bat. Even though its in self-defense. Plus, in MOTHER 3, there's a character that shocks his monkey servant out of amusement. What kind of examples of "animal abuse" do you spot in video games nowadays and before?
Maybe you should create the PETEA group. People for the Ethical treatment of Electronic animals lol Anyways, I can name a few games Oblivion. You can punch dogs and shit. Fable series Any FPS game where you can kill the environmental animals I guess Spore. You can be an absolute bastard to animals in Spore actually. How about a 9000 degree laser? HAHA! NO ATMOSPHERE FOR YOU! Timesplitters - You can light monkeys on fire, and they actually scream in Chimp sounds when you do it... Does Shadow of the Colossus count? Because some of them seem like giant docile animals really. I can probably name off a million more.
What, you think those ducks are really dead before the dog gets to them? I guess there's also the famous "hamster in microwave" thing from "Maniac Mansion".
Oh yeah, if you shoot the birds in MGS2 you get scolded by the Colonel guy. He says something like "Are you SATISFIED yet?"
Well, the most violent game I played was Postal 2 (PC format) and you can use the cats as silencer for your weapons lol http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1945857792089194805
Sam & Max is all about animal abuse Remember what happens to the cat: And the unforgettable Wak-a-rat!
Talking of lucasarts adventures, in Zak McKracken you could put your pet goldfish sashimi into the kitchen sink, just remember not to turn on the waste disposal unit... or the rare two headed squirrel which you could make extinct in a few interesting ways...
Well, there are so many games in which you can shoot dogs, chickens, mice etc. that it probably isn't worth mentioning them all! Still, you shoot dogs in Resident Evil, chickens in Counter:Strike and rats in Zelda (e.g. SNES version). Other than that, I was going to mention Postal 2! One that noone has mentioned is Ace Ventura on the PC. You had to rescue animals, of course. Can you abuse your dog in Nintendogs? :110:
"Deer Hunting", made by SEGA for the American market: http://www.segaarcade.com/archive/deerhunting.aspx I always noticed how unusual for a game Zelda's chicken treament was, but actually I considered it a sadistic fun lol. Postal 2 though is wide of the mark if you ask me. I liked the game, but killing animals that way was not really necessary. Burning dumb offensive hillbillies with gasoline on the street was fun though @retro I used to throw toys at my dogs all the time, does that count?
there really are loads. Just in a moments thought.. Dogs in Moonwalker, pigeons in GTA, dogs in Wolfenstein 3D, Tigers in Tomb Raider (and dogs again I think? not played it in years).
Pretty much everything. Lara is a killer, in all the games animals are usually the enemy and she also mows down people such as security guards, etc.
