Whoo whoo, Anime Expo is right around the corner! Is anyone here going? I'm going.. taking the rail line down and rooming with a bunch of people. While there, I'm gonna hang out with friends, see some industry panels, maybe see Tatsunoko... I'm half-half on seeing Morning Musume. (I'm not even a fan of them, but I figure "why not?".) THere's also that Gurren Lagann movie showing and I'm seeing it with several other people. There really is a lot to do here. The excitement! What say you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP5lz2CYNR4 Was it anything like that? :110: I hold myself respectable with my fandom, though I believe other people take it overboard sometimes. What exactly killed it for you?
I used to go in the 90's. It's so much like a cattle call, masses of smelly people, boring similar merchandise everywhere. I'd prefer to just go to Japan. This year they have morning musume, which is sort of interesting. However, dealing with 5K 15 year old cosplayers... I can do without it.
The people. I don't mind anime/manga or whatever at all. I like some anime (mainly just the really popular films). But the people drove me nuts.
You know, I think I'm gonna swing by this, since I'm missing the San Deigo Comic Con this year for reasons beyond my control, I might as well go dork out somewhere else. Never been to an Anime con before, I'll make sure to bring my camera. 1080peter, I'm probably going to go on Friday, so if you're there that day maybe we could meet up or something.
I'd have considered going there to see Moi dix Mois if they'd announced their concert more than a week in advance
I'll be there. I'm gonna be at the Left 4 Dead cosplay gathering at 2:00pm near the event registration/bag checkin/food court area.. I'll PM you my cell just in case.
Mr. 1080peter, you know I was there, I called but the message said your mailbox was full. It's cool though, I was only there until about 4pm today anyway. I ran out of cash pretty quick, but made a pretty good haul. Had a good time, but I can't see how people could stand going to this thing for all four days. Some pics for you all. Some of these are slightly blurry, sorry I'm not much of a photographer. Probably the hottest cosplayer I saw today: Impressive, but I don't know what character they're supposed to be: These two were much more attractive than this pic makes them look: Some Booth babes: Some Yobo famiclones. The one that the guy is standing in front of is NES, Snes, and Genesis combined. FF XIII advert on the side of a building:
In college I was in an Anime club called D.A.F.T (Drunk anime fans @ Tech) We kept up to our name and we were not allowed to be a campus organization. We also had a righteous party at a convention in Baton Rouge and got asked to never come back.
This is okay. This girl makes cosplaying okay. Guys can't do it, though. :110: I think I'm one of the only people here who is totally disinterested in 99% of anime (although some of the stuff my roommates show me is alright) and manga. I'd totally agree with the sentiment that a lot of the people are a turn-off to this kind of subculture (obvious exception to the girl above).
I went to Anime Iowa 2 years ago and might go again this year. I enjoyed myself and did pretty good in the smash bros. tournament. It's also where I got my copy of Rockman X3 for $15. =D
