I swear this was a topic before but whatever, it's been awhile and something is bugging me. The Frogs in Metal Gear Solid 4. They're totally based on the Mazone from Captian Harlock right? The Frogs are female soldiers, the Mazone are seductive aliens doing lord knows what. They also both die the exact same way SCREAM and combust. I can't find any source where Kojima confirms this but it's kind of obvious. Speaking of Obvious, Casshan and Mega Man. Hell Just look at Sigma and Buraking boss. Robot Dog.... I think it extends beyond Astro boy like most Mega Man Fans say. There are other that have come up in the past like Akira in Last Resort and K9999 being Tetsuo in KOF 2001. Besides Confirming the Mazone and Frog deal I just mentioned. Any blatant references/influences that pop up off the top of your head?
There were a few Sega CD FMV games (Wolfteam ones come to mind) that were literally interactive animes. Time Gal and Road Avenger are the two I can think of right now, but there were others.
I'm not really talking about art style or anime games. More things in games that may have come from Anime. But Guilty Gear does have Baiken, she's basically a Rule 63 Kenshin.
*rofl* Kojima's games are full of anime references, btw. And references to themselves: I don't think it was a clever idea to put a Jehuty statue into Granin's office: it's highly unlikely that anyone could design anything like that in 1960's.
Well Otakon is an otaku, and so is Akiba. So there's that. I don't know what the Metal Gears Originally looked like in the MSX games but in 2 and 4 they kind of resemble Evangelion units. I haven't played Zone of the Enders but I'm sure it's rife with references.
*Otacon. Akiba? He's kinda silly, but him being an otaku is an interesting fact! Did you know that he's actually the soldier that guards your cell in MGS1 when you are tortured? ZoE is an anime, actually. It's referenced like over 9000 times in MGS. The original ones were way more steampunk. Arsenal Gear is... well, "WTF?" and RAY is really anime-esque. REX is more like a tank.
I think MGS4 pretty much tells you. MGS1 is the only Metal Gear game I haven't played yet. I often wonder if Kojima missed his calling as a film maker. Imagine the crazy shit he could do with Hedeki Anno.
Puyo Puyo has anime style characters. Bomberman '93 has a screen in between different worlds that shows the title and an image of Bomberman. It's very similar (intentionally, I think) to the title screen that they show in an anime after the show returns from a commercial.
Dragon's Dogma has a couple of references to Berserk. Guts' and Griffith's armors are in the game, and I think Guts and Casca are two of the character presets.
OT Post Well, that's probably the best one, speaking of setting and plot. Also, Snake has a very dark aura that is not being recreated in later games. IMO. EOT
