What anime series (or movies, but series are preferred) do you know that mainly focus on gaming?

Not talking about the occasional reference but series that entirely focus on people playing/developing games (retro/modern or even pc) et cetera.

    Anything?

Off the top of my head the only anime that I can think of that really "talks" about video games is Genshiken. It's not exclusively about video games (it takes place in a college club that focuses on otaku culture, so expect talks about manga and anime alongside video game and some more nsfw stuff as well) but there's quite a lot of it discussed in the episodes, and although I still prefer the manga, I'd recommend it anyway, it's quite fun.

.Hack maybe? I never watched it or played any of the games, but the back of the one game I do own made it seem like you were playing a game, while playing a game, if that makes any sense. A virtual MMO or something like that. It even came with an anime movie to go with it.

I would assume the anime series focuses on the whole MMO aspect as well, but again I can't say for sure since I never watched it. Not exactly sure if that's what you're looking for though.

You know, considering how there's practically an anime about everything (swimming, fishing, riding trains, making anime, bio science, boxing, bike racing, playing piano, bathing, working at a restaurant, becoming a parent etc) it's surprising there's not very many video game themed anime, especially considering their core audience.

Seconding Genshiken even though it's not 100% gaming focused. The .hack series or Sword Art Online are indeed about players playing an MMORPG, but because 90% of the show takes place inside the game, it's almost more of a fantasy/action series, might not be what you're expecting.

Arcade Gamer Fubuki is one, but is pretty bad, far too much fanservice (the main character's video game power literally comes from flashing her underpants. Seriously)

A far better choice would be My Little Sister Can`t Be This Cute/Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai though it's focus is on sister themed dating sims and how they're incredibly unrealistic. It's much better than it sounds, it's got great animation, great characters, a bit of drama is is also very funny.

Some anime for the "maybe" pile could include:
Lucky Star - There's a lot of scenes of characters playing games, but a fair amount of the show is Seinfeld-stye "show about nothing" jokes. I love this series anyway, so I'd recommend it regardless.
Welcome to the N.H.K! - There's a number of scenes of characters playing games (at one point, two of the characters try to start a game company) but it's not the main focus of the series. Still, it's a great series with some excellent drama, would recommend it.

Also giving a special mention to Ben-To, the main show is about fighting for discounted supermarket food, but there's a number of licensed appearances from a number of classic Sega consoles and games:

Also Log Horizon, which just started airing in Japan last weekend. No idea if that'll also stay mostly in-game, as I haven't read the light novels it's based on, but it probably will.

Another one that comes to mind as tangentially related is Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, as one of the characters participates in a game creation/design contest, but that's far from the main focus of the show.
