Hello all , Figured i would post my freshly imported STi , a Street replica of the 2002 championship car Tommi Makinen won the Monte Carlo Rally in. car is a 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STi , aprox 105,000 km's . it joins my 2013 WRX Limited , and is more of a weekend toy than anything , hope you all enjoy. Any other Subaru fans here ?
Thats cool man. We thought it would be cool to own a WRX STI. For now we'll have to settle for our 05 Outback XTI, which is still quite snappy.
Thanks Guys, cool to see other Subie fans on here! Have owned a Japanese Forester before, and yes, they are quite fun ! a little more practical than this also .. Hehe, i wish i could throw this one around the dirt a bit more , but she's more or less strictly set up for tarmac rally , Coil-over suspension is rather on the firm side to say the least !
no cage, being a street driven replica .. in my experience , cages in street car just are not practical or safe, and i really don't like wearing a helmet daily lol. also , passing out of province inspection with the roll cage would not happen. The car does have lots of subframe bracing , and ladder bracing the length of the underside, so is really stiff chassis. sure are , the target boost of my old fozzie was 18 psi ! its a 2.0 l in Japan , rated at 250 hp for the SF foresters. A bit more in my case ...
Gotcha, I've never really heard of a street driving replica. I guess I sorta thought it was a true race car in a sense. Does it have straight back seats and 5 point harness?
does have a fixed bucket seat, no harness though , use the standard 3-point, again , using a harness on street sucks , can't even lean forward to grab your sunglass off the dash , and makes shoulder checking difficult lol . i guess what i meant by street driving replica, is that its a usable street car , with the full race car look.
Just a heads up be careful with a 3 point and straight back seats. Those items are meant to be used in conjunction with a cage. If the car rolls over and the roof caves in, you wont be able to bend down like you can with a normal lap/shoulder belt. Now if you had a cage, the roof wouldn't cave in. You'd actually be safer with cage that is just in the rear. Just main hoop etc. No door bars etc. But you couldn't have passengers in the back.
maybe its a matter of different regional terms, but a 3-point to us here is a lap/sholder belt, standard seat belt.
No way, I just never suspected that, I thought they were like a Rav 4 basically, lol. Nice, I think the 2.5L they put in our Outback is fairly similar to that sort of horse power. Must have been a sweet SUV to drive
What's it take to import a car to Canada from Japan? Even importing one from Canada to the US can be a hassle.
the vehicle must be 15 year of age or older *to the month of manufacture. This car has only been legal for about 3 months here , being a 2001 model year , other than that , you must pay Canadian customs and brokerage fee's , and make sure the vehicle will pass your province's OOP (out of province inspection) ... that's it ! the reason importing from Japan is so appealing to Canadians (especially enthusiast or sports models) is the conditions and prices of cars from Japan. Low Km's are the normal , and will sell for many thousands less than the equivilent domestic model at auction.
That's awesome. I live in the states and a buddy imported a R32 Skyline, grant it I think its 25 years here in America for the import of cars that were never DOT tested. /bummer
Nice Impreza. I had a 2006 STi for 7 years until some dick wrote it off after smashing in to the back of it.
yeap, 25 years for US, its funny , we noticed here in Canada , as soon as R32's became legal in US , the prices here for R32 GTR's skyrocketed. Car's that would have sold for 8-9k (Cnd) , now sell for 12-15K (Cnd) .. US is a huge market , and lots of guys interested in those car's ..so i kind of get it ... but come on.. lol Very nice! , i love the Hawkeye Impreza , sorry to hear about the accident , what are you driving now ?
I would suggest getting a proper steering wheel with airbag if your not going to us a proper harness. This guy was in the hospital for months getting his face put back together. He probably would have walked away if he had an airbag or proper harness. You can also see the spot on the windshield where his head hit after hitting the wheel.
