Like GaijinPunch said, it sounds like it's a battery problem. The odd thing is that the menu sticks. This could be down to your control ports being broken which of course means you can't move anything on screen making it look as if it's stuck. There are quite a few sites out there that show you how to replace a Dreamcast control board fuse. So if that is the problem then it can be easily fixed.

thx alot for the link. i've never plugged my dreamcast since it stopped to work , so ill try to find it , and makes somes test on it . but that would be strange if it was a battery problem , because i've took it in my friend use (he was working before.) and no sign of lives where detected after this.

    :-(

i don't remember well, does the date screen is suposed to move or something?

    Dreamcast problem.

I've had the same problem myself, though I knew it had something to do with my usual controller. However, when every peripheral I tried (including the lightgun, mouse and keyboard) did not work I had a feeling that the entire control board was at fault. Not being THAT technically minded (or having the correct equipment to personally repair the system), I was considering buying a second-hand console. Now that I've read that guide, I'm passing the subject Dreamcast over to another member of my family who might just know what he's doing... and if not, it's only £25 from my pocket for a new one - I'll be happy either way!

i need a response the quickiest as possible plz , business is business you know? :-D

does anyone tried to repair the problem? what's is the most stable ohm value for my repair? (why 10 ohm or less???)

    thx again.

    cahaz.

  14. Because.

Just get a 10 ohm resistor and call it good with that; that's what I did over a year ago and my Dreamcast is still working fine. There's really no resistor that's more stable or not.

When in doubt, do what the directions tell you. ;-)

my dreamcast does something similar though because of how and why it does it, I doubt its the fuse. After some extended play (usually 30 min to an hour) its fine, though a little while longer after the machien seems to have problems reading any disc unless I turn it off and let it sit for like 10 min. After which, it requests the date and time. If I did not wait long enough, the Date/Time screen loops and even sometimes, the screen goes black anbd white and the picture rolls (displaying PAL?). This is an NTSC unit on an NTSC TV. Its doen this for as logn as I can remember and Sega keeps telling me its a battery issue and it would be 50 dollars to fix, but for that price I could just get a new dreamcast. Any ideas?

just repaired my dreamcast, it's incredilbe how a little resistor can do a difference! :smt043
anyway , now i need to reapir my sega cd ...i've already tried to repair it and it looked to work fine.... but it died 2 months later .... :smt022

    http://www.mrvfone.com.au/sega/fuse.htm

here's the site i took the info about the fuse. they say you need to pop in a 850mA fuse but they say imediatly after : "(AU PAL Mega CD 2) '' so, what type of fuse you need to solder on an american sega CD ? can i use a 850mA fuse too? (if i really cvan, then i don't know why my sega cd died for a second time.... strange. )

    thx alot guys! :smt045
