In 1996, Namco pledged support for the first-generation PowerVR 3D accelerator cards. Through press releases from NEC and Videologic, 3 Namco arcade games were announced for PowerVR: Rave Racer, Air Combat 22 and Tekken

none of them ever came out.

here is Rave Racer on PowerVR, running at 30 FPS (half the framerate of the arcade)

PowerVR Rave Racer was either an Alpha game, or just a demo. It was shown off at various industry trade shows in 1996. It was seen on television. but it was probably never completed (AFAIK) and definitally never got released....

This is the 'SuperGrafx Strider' of unreleased 3D arcade games for the home.

it was never released, not even in limited quantities, because it was never even finished.

yes, the scans are from Next Generation magazine. Number 19 - August 1996.

Pics not showing up for me. Anyways, i remember watching the demo of it running on the PC on that tv show CyberNet.

I look forward to play this game in an emulator, since i never saw it on arcades.

Now the pics show up. Next try, host it at imageshack, so you can put it using thumbnails.

    On Wombat's comment:
That's why i like arcade emulation. I think it's already playable with Vivanono emulator.

there's something special about the breakthrough arcade games back when 3D was still young and novel. I miss those days.

I definitely have that issue. I finally picked up all my old vg mags from my parents house. I love browsing old NextGen's seeing all the 'NEW' games and the amazing still shots of upcoming games. :smt043

I would love to get even an unfinished beta of the PC Rave Racer. The RR series is one of my fav's, Rage Racer being my top pick.

lol, I remember when Pentium 133's were "high spec" PCs ^_^

Kinda reminds me of playing Virtua Fighter on my cousin's P75 many moons ago - that was one of the first 3D PC games I remember that wasn't a simulator or FPS to actually run at a decent speed.

I had a 286 that had a turbo button that made it go at a whooping 16 mhz.

    1988?

Nope, more like 1996. That was my computer/typewriter all through High-School.

You're starting to make me feel "old", and that's not good :(.

I still have the ol' P166 in my closet, although it's in pieces. We would have the Pentium 60, but the thing fucking died a year after we bought it!
