Wasn't sure weather to add this to the other thread or start a new one - flipped a coin so here it is. I found this at a carboot sale here in the UK and it does not work, I have tried checking the solder joints, alignment of the contact points, when I got this home and opened it up, the eprom was not covered up, data loss maybe - anyone have any ideas or know of problems these types of carts may have? Only my second post, stumbled on this site by accident, my best mistake ever.
try to run it in an original Game Boy. I have a similar cart and it does not work in a Game Boy Advance.
I just missed out on one of these a couple of weeks ago because I forgot to put a max bid on it :-( It went for £3.70 as part of a lot with four legit games http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....9170536&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT#ht_500wt_947
Can you elaborate a bit? I've never heard of a cart being killed just because you try to power it inside newer hardware.
I personally had some old multi carts die on me after some idiot I loaned them to put them in a ds. They will fit, so caution.
I thought regular GB/GBC carts didn't even fit inside the DS. They are a different shape than GBA which is all DS accepts.
not all pirate carts have correct shape, so it fit in and he ruined it. The cart was an old expensive one and had some ic in it, which he shorted I guess. You also shouldn't put gba flashlinker carts in GB even though they fit , it will ruin them.
I will see if I can get it going and certainly will update if I manage to get it working, as has been mentioned I expect its Mario sereral hundred times and then different levels, don't you just love these carts (when they work)
I recently got a GBC pirate and on first run on a GBA SP it refused to boot. It doesn't work on my regular GBC either. I have no idea if it was the SPs fault now or what, after reading your comment. I still don't understand how newer hardware can short old games either. Maybe testing stuff on my regular GBC from now before moving onto the SP would be a good precaution, at least to confirm the SP really is the cause of anything that goes wrong.
The GBA SP shouldn't hurt them. Unless the switch that makes it run in GBC mode is not pressed by the pirate cartridge. If you look in the GBA or GBA SP cartridge slot there is a small switch as I recall that gets pressed down by GB/GBC cartridges to make the system run in that mode. I suppose its possible if you powered the cartridge up in GBA mode it might short something and cause damage. But I would think that would be awfully dumb of Nintendo since they should have expected the eventual failure of the switch. But then again I suppose official game cartridges may be less likely to suffer damage.
Give the cart connector a good clean with a pencil eraser. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason why it doesn't work
