another (less special but very fun/interesting) obscure arcade game by Technosoft

I was checking what games they had made for the arcades and found that they only had Hyper Duel and worked with Sega on Thunderforce AC (which is the same as the one released on home consolde I think).

thing is I picked up a arcade pcb yesterday which was made by TechnoSoft and there appears to be no info on it whatsoever online. I even searched for it using japanese symbols and a translation of these symbols and nothing.

its a very fun 1 or 2 player game - quite simple really. the screen is divided in 2 - you have almost identical images on either side (static or with some bits of animation) and what you have to do is spot the difference - player 1 has to look at the opponent's screen and mark on his own screen what he see's as different - player 2 does the same. 2 player game is cooperative.

in one pleyer the idea is the same but you're working against the clock and every round is split into 5 parts (so you have to work on 5 pictures within this frame of time). sometimes the screen scrolls across and you have to use your pointing skills to hit the object as it passes by.

bonus rounds between levels are you (player 1 is a boy and player 2 a girl, both drawn in typical cute anime fashion) either punching away at a tower until it crumbles and falls, or helping a penguin get to his destination. there are more, I just haven't gotten to them yet.

graphics are very colorful, and very nice. this game's probably form around '93 or '94. while there's not that much going on on screen most of the time, it complements the way the game is played. very cute. very japanese.

    I'll get some pictures up.

I don't know why there's nothing on this game online. obviously very obscure and unheard of (obviously unemulated), and it wouldn't be as interesting as it is if it didn't come from TechnoSoft. maybe some of the characters in this game are from some of their previous works but I'm not that familiar with alot of their stuff. I'll check that out.

If you give me a pic of the original Japanese name I should be able to give it a go. I might be able to find something useful for you.

I'll take a picture of it tonight.
on the main screen you have the main title and the subtitle which I translated the last word of (2 words - the first I think was era) and sais 'sagase' if I remember correctly.

Technosoft made shit loads of crazy odd stuff for arcade and Saturn. Only their shooters were really good. Like Warakia said, try to take a picture of the game and title screen. Sounds quite familiar to me.

yeah there's something very familiar about this game but I can't put my finger on it. maybe I saw it when I was over in Japan years back?
thing about them doing tons of arcade stuff is.. where's the info on it - there's practically nothing which is weird enough. maybe its to region specific (too japanese)?

sorry about the crap pictures (I had the camera on an option that makes the picture blurry if taken from a distance). not as good as the shooters but still fun!

Hurrah lots of info to be had on this one!

    http://www.echoll.co.jp/magicalerror.htm

Check the board in the pic with yours. If it different from the released version you may have something special. If not then this is your game. If you want to search on your own try the following japanese:

    マジカルエラーをさがせ!

UPDATE: BTW The name means - lets look for magical errors!. Doesn't look ultra rare, but it does look quite fun.

wicked! thanks mate, big help there. appears to be pretty common. I have another game which 'appears' to be japanese.

wondering if you can check it out -

called Twin Adventure and is by Barco.corp (BK). if you want pictures of that one I'll post them.

Yeah just give me the name in the original Japanese and I'll put it in Japanese that can search or do whatever with. Searching in english rarely comes up with anything useful!

Glad to be of use with magical error, I'm always glad to do translation as it is one of the main things I can contribute with.

Hmm a Saturn version of that game would be nice, but I don't recall seeing it on release lists.

Good stuff, get one of the title screen. The name doesn't ring any bells though, what kind of game is it?

a very odd mini game collection. some silly premise where some demon has cast its shadow over some fantasy land and either kidnapped the princess or done something to make her sad. you play as one of 2 twins, and the minigames vary - from throwing basketballs at moving hoops to counting how many lion faces there are in a rotating wheel full of animal faces - from catching a ninja's knife as he jumps at you from above, to lifting weights by pummeling the button and shaking the joystick.

the damn thing is too bright for my monitor though and even though I love playing the cab I will have to get a supergun at some point.

No, it never did come to the Saturn :( Shame really. I wish the Technosoft site was still up but sadly it went down about 5 years ago just as they were starting to work on Thunder Force 6 for the Dreamcast. The OST was actually released in Japan but under a different title which I don't know :(
