I recently got a very used Fat PS2. When you turn it on the disk drive makes a horrible noise and it also sometimes does that when you put in a game. This PS2 is modchipped. It will play some burned games, some it won't even recognize and some will display the RSOD. And other games will work if you turn the PS2 upside down ( Like in the good old PS1 days). I have cleaned the lens, but nothing has changed.
If anybody is wondering, It's the SCPH 50008 model with the KHS-400C laser. I also made a video to demonstrate the noise. Any help would be awesome !

Have you tried greasing the mech? If it's making grinding noises then, it's probably gears and sorts grinding away.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try that later and see how it goes.

sounds like the gear guide the laser arm or the spindle hub switch.

I've had a 50003a with a HD7 do this and I fixed it by disassembling the DVD drive and putting it back together.

That way you reseat everything in the DVD drive.Double check that you put everything correctly together.

Well I just greased the rails and adjusted the laser arm. The noise is gone, but it still reads games poorly. So I guess a new laser would be the best solution right?
