Hello. Is there a way to play protected games on a modded ps1 with 4wire chip? I know there are patches however I can't seem to find any. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
online are still present anti mod patches, or you can search for importplayer Light, which, IRC, have a menu function for anti mod games
Apparently, PAL consoles are just fine with a 4 wire modchip. I tried backups of known problematic games (Dino Crisis, FF VIII, etc) and some originals and all of them ran without any problems. My favourite test case - F1 2001, which can freak out even on some unmoded PS2s and all PS3s, also played perfectly fine. I think patches are the way to go for a NTSC-U+4wire modchip. You can find plenty of them online, just google "copyworld". Unfortunatelly the vast majority of them has some kind of ugly intro made by scene groups. Some of the patches a real pain in the butt to apply. For example I remember that Soul Reaver patch is applied with a dos executable, which doesn't run on modern versions of Windows. Yes, you can use DosBox, but why would you? The ideal solution is obviously a good stealth modchip, unless you are stuck with an old PS1 revision.
None of those games give me a problem with a swap trick or booting with a gameshark. On ntsc ps1 don't patch individual isos, just use a boot disk
swap trick doesnt involve a modchip, neither does a boot disc. The games detect the license string being sent when its only possible from a modded console. Swap or boot disc doesnt do this
Ah didn't realize that Ad, I just use a boot disk that circumvents the mod chip detection on my 5501. I've been swapping my psone though since I'm using the lcd and haven't touched the 5501 in a bit
Online patches are still available... they're usually done with a PPF patcher. http://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml The switch mod was mentioned, but if you're going to go through the effort of installing a switch, you might as well just upgrade the modchip to something better IMO.
I am trying to play some PSX Jap imports on a chipped v7 PS2. Can this be achieved? Some of these do not appear to have patches anywhere I have looked. What is this boot disc mentioned? Is the PSX tool kit a disc? Is this boot disc something I can burn myself and boot? My PS2 chip can be disabled, but not on the fly with a switch. DMS4. Is a boot disc really the answer since the modchip will likely still be active?
Note that if you downloaded your "backups" from the internet, that often the anti-piracy games will be pre-patched (but not always!). Edited for typo
