any 100% free game engine for xbox 360?

    im looking to make a game, more of a hobby thing, try and get into it a bit with a buddy of mine. but i can't seem to find a game engine that is free to make on 360. im looking to make a 2D game. anyone know of anything out there? like i said its more of a hobby thing so im not trying to release it on xbl at all lol

    I don't do this often (not answering the actual question), but I would honestly pick another platform.

    You can look to make games using Unity (it exports to XBox 360, but you need to actually buy it).

    Do you mean free as in beer, or as in freedom? The latter would be a hugh issue (is there an open XDK for the 360 yet?)...

    If XNA is ok with you, have a look at this: https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/5135/3d-game-engines-for-xna-games. With XNA you can develop on the PC (like Piratero suggested) and later move to the 360 if you want (need a license for that though I believe, around $80-90 iirc)

    edit: gah, just noticed you want a 2D engine, not 3D... Look around on the site I linked to, there's bound to be a similar thread there that's more relevant to you. The network of sites that stack exchange is part of is an excellent resource.

    i was going to use xna, but really don't feel like spending the $99 price tag. although that seems the be the cheapest thing

    As long as you stay on Windows (which I recommend anyways, until you've got most of the work done) you don't pay anything, you only need it if you want to deploy to your Xbox.
