Going to Berlin with some friends next month and wouldn't mind visiting an arcade or some retro stores.
Well you could try Play! Berlin: http://play-berlin.de/ It's a place where you can play games on Wii or Xbox360 with your friends. However this is not a typical arcade. Another interesting place is the Computerspielemuseum: http://www.computerspielemuseum.de/ It's quite small and you can only play on a very few systems. But the PainStation is definitely worth the visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLRLFDK8Rf0
There is quite a large (actually the biggest one i´ve found here in my life ^^) retro game shop in the shopping street Wilmersdorfer Str. 60. It´s in the backyard and can only be found by seeing the signs on the street. It´s called "Media Tunnel". Quite good, but it´s been two years that i was there. Was a secret tip back then and still is. The Videospielemuseum is supposed to be quite good too, wasn´t there yet. Arcades, well, it´s been a long time that i saw one. Have fun here!
Haven't been to Mediatunnel yet, but I've been told by some knowledgable Berliners that it's a dirty shithole That doesn't relate to the quality of the selection or prices though, just to its looks.
Selection was huge back then and i hope it still is. Be sure to get into the store in the second floor on the backyard, the tunnel itself is only a "display window". Dirty shithole, well that´s a fitting description... The place is surely run by hoarders. It´s got a bad reputation for giving really low prices for stuff you want to sell to them though. Luckily they don´t know shit on which games are rare and which not, i always walked out with some cool stuff i got cheap. Mainstream stuff like Mario is expensive though, but that shouldn´t be a surprise. I must visit them again when my paycheck arrives. ray:
Did the Computerspielemuseum this year, it was ok but for any visitor of Assemblergames, it will be possibly boring... this website is already i think the best Computerspielemuseum.
Came back today. Had a good time in Berlin. As for Media Tunnel I think this image says it all.. (friends of mine)
It´s gone? Oh man, that sucks, googling for it still brings up many "yellow pages"-like sites showing it... I think you also looked in the backyard? Well, sorry for the inconvenience. Glad you liked it here.
Yeah it was gone. We even went up into the elevator (had a great laugh) and came across some kind of fitness studio. The girl inside told us MediaTunnel was gone. No problem, we had a great laugh (afterwards anyway). Thanks
