Just wondering really? Am thinking of going into the comic resale business and was trying to get a feel for the market Although i enjoy reading them, i have never thought about taking it one step further but while trying to find ideas for a second business i can run from home this was a suggestion put to me... Any ideas?? ta Lee
Yes, I am a comic collector, and a reader of comics too. I like alot of stuff, so to make it simple, then I like DC, Marvel, The Phantom, Image , and alot of other artists and publishers. But there are so many, that I can´t mention them all.
i currently have approx 6000 comics stored in my loft, mostly marvel, and older image / topcow and avengaline etc, a majority is xmen related and i have some near complete runs of most of the series up until about 6 years ago when i stopped collecting inc wolverine, xfactor, xforce, cable, excailbur, as well as uncanny xmen, miniseries, loads of variants, signed editions, 1st issuses etc.. the list goes on! was considering selling myself a few years ago,but never got round to sorting them all out, but looking at the prices recently on ebay i wish i had resold them when i had the chance as the prices have plummited in the past few years, where comics i paid £20 and up to £100 per comic are now selling for pennies on ebay but good luck to you selling lee, if you think theres a market for them go for it, failing that you could always buy my collection off me!
Well.. I used to buy every issue of turtles as a kid. Also bought a lot Usagi Yojimbo and some transformers and lots of others too.
Andy - just how big is this collection and how much would you want! Cheers for the input people, i was thinking mainly the mainstream publisher (DC, Marvel, DarkHorse etc) but i guess i cant be too picky as money is money! Will do somemore digging around as i cant think of a better job where i get to read comics and then sell them also! lol
like i say, at last count, approx 6000 comics, when i last had them valued which was about 4 years ago, for insurance purposes was around £17000, but prices have dropped, and to be honest i prob wouldnt sell them all as some have more sentimental value than anything else, where id spend months hunting down certain ones etc.. i was thinking of getting them out of storage in the summer hols, so i mite have a look through, if i do decide to sell, you'd be my first port of call
I've got a decent comic collection myself, probably at least 3000 books. As for the market, depends exactly on what you're selling. Seems like all the stuff that came out in the 90s is pretty much worthless, but stuff from the 1970s and before is going up in value.
Might hold you to that.... even if you are not going to sell them, a chat while looking at them could be handy to get more of a feel for it etc.. I was thinking that it would mostly be the 80/90's comics really as i can buy those in bulk at good prices and from what i have gathered already its more a case of quantity sales to make any money or early issues etc... Hmmm. ...... lots of htinking to be doing i feel!
Comics are losing ground to manga, and fast. I myself was never into comics, but a big manga collector.
So am I, story-wise and artwork-wise manga is lightyears ahead. The thing with the western comics is about collectivity and childhood memories, if any.
hmmm.. starting to give me the impression that maybe i shouldent bother and it could be more hassle then its worth?
I wouldn't do it unless you've got tons of experience with the worth of comics, patience and the right connections.
fair enough.. it was an idea that i thought i could maybe tag on teh side of my existing business interests to bring in an alternateive income... Will have to work more on the current one i guess...
Yeah, you got that right. Actually it's not hard to see the influence, a lot of mainstream comics are finding they have to adapt to a semi-magna style in order to survive.
right i dont htin i have the time to devote to this venture sadly due to other restrictions and it sounds like the market may be slowing down due to the Manga increase... however! A friend of mine is about to move up our way and is planning on possibly doing this as a sideline (he has more fre time then i do! lol) while working full time to pay the bills etc.. Will keep you all posted!
I have a small collection of ivan brunetti and sam henderson comics (with a few others in the same vein thrown in). not into kids/superhero comics at all tho..
People, NOT all super hero comics are kids oriented, so I take offence of that remark. And not all normal comics are bad at all. Heck, when I said I collect and read comics, then it also includes Illustrated classics, if any one of you guys knows what those are. And I have quite a few books made into comics. So comics is NOT, and I repeat NOT for kids only, and I wouldn´t call Frank Millers work, for kids oriented comics, so sven666 stop being so damn harsh against super hero comics and the likes. Heck, at the moment I am reading a normal book called The Adventures of The Stainless Steelrat, which is a fucking great bookseries by Harry Harrison. Comics are great. And not "just for kids". And not all mangas are great, alot of them sucks in my mind. So again, here I can get attacked for not liking all manga comics, and books.
sorry man, didnt mean to offend you, i was thinking more along the lines of spiderman but youre right there are adult oriented superhero comics aswell ofcourse.
