The original gameboy is fun to collect for since many carts are still low priced even with the recent nintendo price boom. If there are any gameboy advance games you're looking for, I would pick them up now as the prices are starting to rise on GBA games especially on rare carts. Also if you want an AGS-101 model GBA or one of the original GBA models with AGS-101 modded screen, I'd pick those up also as they are getting scarcer and climbing in price.
I've always wanted to get into game boy collecting but only the Japanese stuff because I just love those small boxes. The problem is that I know I'll never play anything. I just don't play handheld at all. I've tried and tried over the last 20 years but I just can't get in to hand held gaming on a big enough scale.
I helped my friends with this video it shows all PAL gameboy cartridges. When we made this list we discovered that gameboy collecting is cheap and nobody really cares. WHY ? More gameboys sold then nes consoles. Longer lifespan. So why does nobody collect for it ?
I collect CIB Gameboy games for 2 and a half years now and it is really fun. I really like the boxes and how they look on the shelves. But collecting GB games isn't as cheap as some people say, specially if you go for CIB titles. Some of them are also very hard to find even loose. You can find a lot of cheap games even boxed but there are some that go easily for triple digits.
I wish I can get a game boy color and sp or whatever but I don't see them for cheap and I don't play handhelds that much.
I have a lot of GB, GBC, GBA and DS games. All bought new and half are still factory sealed. I'm not that into handhelds too. But I think that my main problem is that I refuse to play a game if I didn't played the older one first. I mean, I'm not playing any DS Metroid game if I don't finish all the GBA titles... The same with Pokémon. I'll just not play the newer ones until I'm satisfied with the older ones first. Yeah I have problems... And I don't care about trends. n.n' If you're picky in "condition", keep in mind that if you don't buy at retail, they'll become very expensive later.
I have a GB, SGB, and a GBP and yet I barely have any GB games Its odd. Maybe because of the lack of games I'm interested in? You could just check eBay or Amazon for those...
I consider my gameboy collection pretty good so far. I've been collecting seance 2000 but didn't really get too serious about it till only about 3 years ago. Most of my CiB games I have are all in good shape and are one I bought when they first came out. I've also got Trip world with the manual.
That's why you need to buy at retail if you want this condition. These are rare and expensive. But you can find them around...
GBAs and GBCs are pretty easy to find, unless you're talking about one of the special editions or the AGS 101. Amazon is surprisingly good, they've got a few still in their warehouses or whatever. I got Samurai Deeper Kyo (the last game on the GBA in the US) with a DVD for like $15
It's made all the more easier thanks to yahoo auctions where you can buy a bulk collection of boxed games for cheap. =/ I've got a sizable GB/GBC & GameGear collection thanks to buying a few bulk game sets.
Too true. Bulk buys are great for starting a collection plus you can always resell the stuff you don't want.
