I found it inside one of my CartDec Rev.B Saturn that I have for ages...
never bothered to open its CD door since I use another one from Cross...

I have no time to setup/hook up CartDev system to test this disc atm... :smt022 hence asking anyone knows what this disc do?

Essentially it's a boot disc, if I remember rightly.

    hmm... interesting...
I wonder it will work on normal retail Saturn?
I wish I have time to burn CD-R of any game I have and test that theory out... :smt022

It is a boot disk for third party developpers.
This one comes from TGL (according to the serial number T-325 written).

I think it is the same as the one that has been copied & put on the net some times ago.
If you want to compare them, let me know & I will send you a copy.

How it works for dev people (if I remember correctly):

First they put this disc on the saturn. This disc contains the special ring which is checked by the console.
Next, the prog on the disc is loaded & mark COMPLETED on the screen.
Then, 3rd party developpers can put in any cdr they want with a 3rd party header (not the sega one with SEGA ENTERPRISES ... only the ones with SEGA TP...) so they can check on a real hardware their work. They must not reset the console to get them to work.

So as you have the original Boot disc, it must work on a real saturn. Put it on the Saturn, power, then wait for the word COMPLETED, open without resetting, put any burnt game not made by Sega, close & play.

Tell us if it works that way.

    System Disc

    Madroms is correct.

Unlike Sony, Sega never produced debug/test systems for the Saturn and Dreamcast. Instead is produced the System Discs which allowed developers to test their code on 100% retail hardware.

For the Saturn, there were two discs, one for first party games and one for all third party games. One was red, the other was black.

For the Dreamcast there was just a single disc.

All of the Sega System discs will disable the copy protection (allowing you to run CD-R or GD-R games) but they will NOT disable the country code as that is checked for in a different way.

Once the System Disc has been loaded into a unit it will stay active until the power is cycled...this means if a game exits gracefully when the door is opened you can simply drop in another CD-R/GD-R (depending on the system) and start it up from the system menu.

While all of the System Discs are somewhat rare, comparatively speaking, the third party system disc is common compared to the first party (Sega) system disc when talking about Saturn items.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: System Disc

Well, they did make Saturn Address Checkers :) Sure, most debug stuff was done by software on the dev kit, though.

wasn't there a program that support byte-to-byte copying with Saturn disc support? I need to copy one of my Saturn disc into CD-R to see whether my System Disc works... (instead of ripping using WinCDR I'd rather just copy directly to save time)
I swear there was one such program that does PS1 disc as well?

    anyone?

CDRWin will copy nearly any disc sector for sector. I've been faithful to it for 6 years.
