I am writing on an (very short) article about the Famiclone Micro Genius (actually trying to answer a readers question). Maybe someone here (I can´t think of a better place:dance: ) can give me general information about it? Any good games? How much is a boxed worth etc?

    yeap its a company!

I owned a famicom clone of it, very durable, even had a wireless RF antenna so you could "hook-it up" to your TV set wirelessely. It worked FINE as long as you didn't mess up the antenna :D Just picture that: your famiclone not wired to your TV :)

There were many different versions of the famiclone/nes of it :)

    no problem :)

This is one of the models.

The ones I had seen were 1)Green/Yellow, clone of the famicom, except that it had 2 controller ports (RS232 i think) and one gun port in the middle. Also, you could rest the controllers on the side of the console if I recall correctly. The controllers were green/gold, the second controller lacked the speaker-microphone of the original famicome, and did have Start/Select buttons.

The usual problem with the controllers was "A-Start". This means that while playing, if the controller was towards the end of its short life-span, the A and START buttons would mix-up, making your game pause randomly when you pressed A (A pain in the ASS playing mario)

It came with games in the console's memory. No saving of course. The Asian version of it contained Captain Tsubasa 1 (Named as Captain Majed), super mario bros.1, Flappy, Donkey kong 3, "Sky Destroyer" (Cant recall the original title of the game), Milk Nuts, Ninja Turtles 1, Lode Runner and some other games.

I finished the japanese Captain Tsubasa 1 and then later bought a (Bootlegged) cartridge of the sequel, beating that too. I would write down the pass-codes , that were in japanese, in a little notepad I had for games :) (I was 6-9 years old).

Other models were SNES-ish or had an independant design that didnt resemble anything original or official.

PS: it also contained gun games such as Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, a wild west one (Wild Gunman), Contra 1, and Galaxian.

It was tons of fun packed in a loveable package. I can't remember how many hours i wasted in front of that old Tube TV back in the day. The price was extremely affordable even then

Barcode is correct, I think: It had really cool packaging, if I recall correctly.
I'm thinking of a package that was mostly white and had coloured stripes, but I'm remembering this from memories of like 15 years ago, so I'm not sure. I do recall it saying "72 pin" somewhere in the package. I saw hundreds of these from 1990 to 1994 in the black market.

From what I recall, the Micro Genius brand was moderately common in Mexico (along with NTDEC, and NASA). There was also a dual 60-72 pin model made by them, I think. Either that, or their regular 60 pin came with an adapter so you could play NES carts on the Fami-shaped clone. At least one of their models came with pre-loaded games on board.

I think the one I remember was one of the better, more originally shaped famiclones, or at least many micro genius varieties were.

There were also carts branded that way, were they not?

I m not sure. All the bootleg Famicom cartridges I bought as a 7 year old did not bear a brand. Also,I have never seen NES bootlegged carts in person.

There were several brands of famicloned carts. Some would have "NTDEC" (and sometimes a portrait of Pac-Man near that) Etched on them, some would just have different labels, with different styles.

Today's Famiclone carts are not precisely as well produced.

Micro Genius is a company from Taiwan. Back in 1988-1990 they made tons of pirate games and exported them all over the world. I have a bunch of pirate games with a Micro Genius plastic box. On the back of the box, they advertize their clone systems. Here is a pic of all my games : [IMG]

and the back of one of the game :

Micro Genius also developed their own unlicensed games. Here is a link to my site of the unlicensed games made by Micro Genius :

I think Micro-Genius in the same company as TXC and in 1991 they bought the comapny Idea-Tek, but I'm unsure about that.

Boxed Famiclone cartridges. Now that, my friend, is one RARE find.

    Superbly awesome.

... wow ... The controllers from the picture. I recall those.

On a side note, clones like those were sold in Poland and branded as "Pegasus". Early models looked like famicoms but had controllers permamently attached to the console. They also used famicom style carts. Later models were more rounded and had detachable controllers (I'm not sure if they were interchangable with original Nintendo pads). We also had those zany clones sold as Genesis 3D or somesuch, or encased in a plastic mold of a batmobile.
