Are there any other Atari Lynx fans on here? Currently, it's my most complete collection. I never had the money to pick one up until Atari started to sell them for $80 (or so) with the 4 pack-in games. Not counting variations, I'm under 15 games away from having a complete collection. That also doesn't include the later released Telegames carts, or any other independent games. I think it's a great system and far surpasses the Game Gear in terms of technology. It's too bad it never really took off. I wonder if it's because of how poorly designed the boxes were for the games. The early ones didn't even have VRAM dumps for screen shots, it was just a camera pointed at the Lynx screen. You also only got about 2 sentences of description about the game, written in somewhere around 10 languages on each box. Either way--a fun system that still has some great games.
I have one bought because my bro had one at the uk launch and i wanted to relive it, only have a boxed lynx II, boxed Shadow of the Beast and an unboxed Batman Returns
recently got one for six dollars at a flea market - the old bulky system, Klax and two other games that I can't get to remember, and the offiicial carry case. ... Sadly, it's "modified" to accept other power plugs and now it doesn't work.
I'm a big Lynx fan myself. I have about 25 games for it...18 or 19 being boxed...I think. Its a fun little system. Great graphics, and tons of Western arcade games (which I love). Yay Lynx! Its fun to buy for considering that practically everything for it is super cheap...expcept for Lemmings...grumble.
I have a Lynx I with 8 games, carrying pouch and carrying case. Unfortunately I ruined the port for power, accidentally. Either that or the ac adapter no longer works, but I belive it does work. Still works with batteries, and if you let the batteries "rest" between gameplay, they can last quite a bit. Rampart is my favorite game, by the way.
Rampart is definitely one of my favorites too. I also really love Xenophobe, and Todd's Adventures in Slime World. I'd love to find a way to try the multiplayer mode in slime world. The game itself is absolutely amazing...and I can only assume the multiplayer would rock.
I believe my current count is 3 lynx II's 18 games and a few different carrying cases. I've been meaning to flesh things out a bit more, but I've just been busy and it's hard to focus on to many collections at once.
Rampart is a good one, I'm still trying to track down a decently priced copy of Rampage in box. That is one of my favorite arcade games of all time. The Rygar on Lynx is probably my favorite game, though I've still got probably 20 or so games I haven't even opened yet.
I think the other games I have other than Klax are Gauntlet and Blue something... it has a plane or helicopter on the cover. Sadly, I can't play them.
Rampage on Lynx is really amazing. I ended up settling and getting one without the box though. It was super cheap. It's really the nicest of the earlier home versions of it. Xerdo, the Game is Blue Lightning...I'd call it an After Burner clone...only a little bit slower. What exactly was done to your Lynx, Xerdo...do you really think theres no way you could get it working again? Have you tried it with batteries?
Yup, blue lightning it is, sir. Checked here at home. I have no idea who the previous owner is - but he tried to be clever and sort of hot-wired an electrical adapter to the insides of the machine (perhaps the original plug had stopped working?). If I plug it in, even without pressing the "on" button, the screen lights up completely, but I get no game. If I slip in some batteries, I don't get anything at all. Maybe the cable supplies the screen directly. I have no idea, haven't got around to open it and try to fix it.
Well I don't remember any of my systems screens powering up without the system. There's deffinately something wired up wrong. If you can open it and provide pictures we may be able to provide a bit more help. That is, if you really care that much. Damn I loved Rygar. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I really should track down another copy.
I just might, one of these days... just for the sake of curiosity, and to see if I can make it work somehow. Otherwise, it's not really a big loss. I would be out six dollars, providing I wouldn't re-sell the cartridges on MercadoLibre for a couple dollars each, maybe a bit more, to recover my "investment". ... which I'm likely to end up doing anyway if the thing doesn't work. But hey, let's see if we can make it function somehow. The help is appreciated for sure.
At the very least, you can't make it worse. I do know that the Lynx was notorious for having broken power jacks...but I always heard that people just replaced the jack itself. And yeah, I know the Lynx screen doesn't turn on without pushing the power button. I'd just grab a soldering iron and remove whatever was added. Who knows, maybe you'll get it working--at the very least, the games alone are worth six bucks easily.
I'm willing to guess that if you just de-solder whatever was modified it should still work with batteries at least.
You should also ask for help with the Lynx at the forum AtariAge, they are very good at this, and you should easily find a thread related to this particular issue. Also, in my experience, opening the Lynx I is a snap, but closing the unit again is a bit of a pain thanks to the buttons and D-pad, but can be done after a few tries. I heard the same as Blur, but I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to fixing my Lynx AC input, given how difficult is to find one working and in good shape here. I hope eventually you get it to work. It really is a interesting console. I remember being quite impressed when I saw the scaling graphics, and that the screen blurs less than the GameGear. Having said that, if you ever decide to sell Blue Lighting and Klax (both are very good games for the plataform, worthy of keeping), give me PM
I have a Lynx II and 33 games. It's a great system, but it does eat the batteries too fast. I have the AC adapter, but the cord is too short to be practical.
I suggest trying rechargable batteries. I might be crazy, but I'm pretty sure the ones I use last an insanely long time...like 5ish hours. As a side note, this thread really makes me wanna play my Lynx. Too bad I left it at home (I'm at school now) I'm definitely bringing it back with me when I go home in a week.

How much do you guys think a Blue Lighting demo cart is worth? I'm pretty sure that's what I saw for sale, but didn't know what to offer. @ Blur2040 I'll have to give the rechargeable ones a try.
